Rumia has two special skills to choose from: Dark Amplification, which increases the power of her darkness barrier (5 MP to decrease incoming damage by 1200) by 500, or Pitch Black, which reduces one enemy's accuracy by 20% for three turns. I think I'm gonna switch over to the latter.

Sanae is meeting with th e kappa workers! They seem to be working on some kind of project they don't want to tell her about.

Momiji gives a quick update, then leaves before Sanae can finish thanking her for it.
Then, everything goes dark...

In case it's Reimu's company, Sanae wants to start preparing, although Kanako thinks she'd be better of sleeping a bit longer.

She seems lively as ever as she heads off to continue work, but Kanako can't shake the feeling that something's wrong...

Star is a bit hazy on why they're even up here in the first place. Cirno distinctly remembers that Keine said to "meet at the shrine," so they're heading off to the Moriya Shrine to meet up with everyone.
Something is ever so slightly wrong here.

Even this is lost as Sunny and Cirno immediately get into an argument about who the leader is. Cirno insists that she should lead because she's stronger, Sunny insists that without Daiyousei ("that green girl"), Cirno's nothing more than a moron.

Luna senses a great power somewhere nearby, which is when Cirno gets an idea.
Oh, dear.

Meanwhile, Alpha Team has ended up in some kind of spooky swamp! This is what happens when you're trying to sneak past Youkai Mountain's defenses, I guess. Komachi says it's a place where the spirits of the departed gather. Possibly a popular human suicide spot, if humans came this far up the mountain.

As we encroach into the swamp, Daiyousei starts to get a weird feeling. Fairies tend to have good senses, so we'd better advance carefully...

Team Fairy's status: Totally and utterly lost. Cirno attempts some ice-based divination to find the right path, but she doesn't actually know how to do divination.

There are some Spooky Ghosts here! It just adds to the atmosphere that has Luna absolutely terrified.
Oh, also they're shooting at us. RUUUN

Chapter 20 (Reimu Route): Curse God Calamity

If you're heading for the shrine as well, I'll send you all away together.



No more time. Let's use the fairies as bait and get some answers out of Hina.


They came running this far, in this atmosphere, after all.

I have two parties deployed on this stage! In the northwest corner is Team Reimu, filled with mighty badasses...

...and in the southwest corner, these four. How good are they?


...not very!
Until the two fronts reconvene, Cirno will have to do the heavy combat lifting.

They're at least capable of dodging a few attacks, but their damage output is quite low.
Fortunately, there is some great synergy at work between these three!

Star has an aura that increases the accuracy of adjacent allies by 10%. Luna has a similar aura for evasion. Sunny has an ability that makes enemies unable to attack her or adjacent allies on their next turn (they can still counterattack, though).

So at the very least, they can all huddle together and advance slowly through the enemy force.
But wait! They have one last trick up their sleeves!

But while we're playing with all these abilities, some new enemies appear!






If you let your guard down, you'll get drawn in by their rage.




So yeah, now we're being attacked by vengeful spirits!
They're not too bad.


Especially not when the power of ice is on my side!





You should know that much if you want to wield fire against me.

A hit on Mokou! Fortunately, she was defending.

And Komachi takes down the last underling! Now it's just us and Hina.

Lets see how long you can keep spouting that "live on through any flames" talk, curse lady!

Which Hina dodges on a 93% hit chance. Not that it matters too much, as I can use it three times per turn!

Cirno crushes Hina's first lifebar with Perfect Freeze!

That's why, as an ally of humanity, I must turn you away...


In that case, I have no choice. Take them - the curses that have accumulated within me!

Painful as that flow is, she's just a stage 2 boss character.

And so the ones to take her down are the fairies!








...but if you've already shown this much resolve, I might as well tell you.

The fairies, or at least one of them, express gratitude for the timely resecue! Now Cirno and Daiyousei can have a happy reunion...

...or maybe not so happy! Their conversation almost immediately results in Daiyousei in tears, scolding Cirno for leaving without an explanation and making her worry. The party comes to the friendly conclusion that Cirno is sort of a jerk.

Hina's still around! As a token of good will, she lifts the miasma from the swamp.

Reimu explains the situation with the threat to her shrine. Hina talks about the cooperation between the tengu and the shrine - the mountain youkai provide faith to the shrine, and the shrine's god provides power for the mountain.

After various discussions about the shrine and its maiden, Hina gives us directions - upstream and then to the top of a great waterfall ahead.

Also, it looks like the fairies aren't a totally lost cause! Sunny can refract light, Luna can nullify sound, and Star can detect moving objects nearby. Their powers might come in handy.

On the side, Komachi finally directly confronts Mokou about her humanity! She gets a feeling from the girl as if she was already dead, or maybe never even lived... but Mokou isn't giving any answers.
