Let's Play Umineko, Episode 1 Scene 11: The Second Day

<< | ^^ | >>

Ushiromiya Natsuhi

Krauss's wife. She manages the household of the Ushiromiya head family in place of her husband, who takes little interest in such matters. She was in charge of all preparations for this family conference.

She possesses a strong sense of responsibility and a great deal of pride. However, neither her husband nor her siblings understand her very well, so her position is far from enviable.

October 5, 1986, 6:00 AM

Day 2! The Typhoon continues.

This was supposed to be the last day of the conference, but it will probably last until tomorrow still, due to the weather.

The flowerbeds are all ruined. Beyond that, everything looks about as expected out here.

Time for the morning chores at the mansion itself.

Gohda isn't in the kitchen. That's the first odd thing about this morning. Nobody is making breakfast.

Oddity number two: The mansion phones are down.

Maybe the storm took out the phone lines.

Elsewhere, Natsuhi wakes up.

This room is her sanctuary. As soon as she leaves, she'll have to deal with her family.

She did, at least, get a full night's sleep. Could it be because of the charm she accepted from Jessica?

It makes her think of something.

This mirror is also a charm - given to her by her grandmother, it supposedly wards off evil spirits.

She'll give it to Jessica later.

Genji knocks on the door. Odd of him, to contact her this early.

Did something bad happen?

For the duration of the typhoon, the phones will remain down. Contact between the mansion and the guest house is foot traffic only.

Now, how about breakfast?

It seems that Gohda is missing. Things are getting odder and odder.

Natsuhi's sentence dies before she can finish it, as she sees the outside of her door.

What the hell is this?

It looks like someone (or something) was trying furiously to get into the room overnight.

Natsuhi thinks she knows who did this, but it would be wiser of her to not react. She orders the vulgar display cleaned and gets on her way.

Eva and Hideyoshi are waiting in the parlor. They are quite disappointed about the lack of breakfast.

Kanon has searched the mansion and guest house, but found no sign of the missing Gohda.

Genji, however, has further bad news...

Gohda isn't the only one missing. Krauss is gone as well.

So are Rudolf, Kyrie and Rosa.

Something strange is going on here.

Natsuhi is grasping at straws to think of something that could be going on here. Eva and Hideyoshi retired from the discussion around midnight.

Natsuhi orders Kanon to search outside for the missing guests. Eva suggests that they might be in Kinzo's study, but there's not really any chance that Kinzo would admit such a detestable conversation into his study.

In the meantime, Natsuhi goes to speak with the head of the family.

For this task, Natsuhi is granted a rare treasure: The only copy of the key to Kinzo's study.

If she uses this, no doubt Genji will take the blame. He must consider this an important situation.

Waking up, the first thing Maria does is go over to her mother's room.

The second thing she does is come back.

Once the cousins are good and awake, Maria reports that her mother is missing.

It seems from here like she could have just come to the mansion already, but Maria's throwing another huge tantrum, so they have no choice but to go find her.

Back in the mansion, Natsuhi is hesitating before addressing her father-in-law.

What will she find in here?

What she finds is Kinzo!

Kinzo is acting uncharacteristically friendly. Still, he insists that he will take his breakfast here in the study. He is not interested in discussing the inheritance.

Unexpectedly, Kinzo turns the topic to Natsuhi's time in the family. He seems kind, almost accepting of her. A total 180 from his past behavior.

The head of the family has finally accepted her.

She does not have the qualifications to wear the One-Winged Eagle, but she bears it on her heart.

Natsuhi does return in failure, but Eva can tell that something has changed in her. Her confidence has tripled.

The non-missing family members have gathered. The search, so far, remains fruitless.

Kumasawa is preparing breakfast in Gohda's absence.

Gohda, Krauss, Rudolf, Kyrie, Rosa, Shannon.

Six in total have gone missing.

Kanon is back. He still hasn't found the missing people, but he does have something else to report.

Something odd, at the rose garden storehouse.

Kanon is hesitant and evasive, but that can't stop anyone right now. The key is fetched, and it's off to the storehouse.

A small, ugly building in an out-of-the-way corner of the garden. The storehouse.

The instant they come across it, they can see what Kanon was talking about.

A strange runic circle is painted on the front, in something that looks an uncomfortable amount like blood.

The mark was drawn some time between Kanon's night patrol and this morning. In order to avoid causing undue discomfort, it must be erased at soon as possible.

Fetch the paint from inside the storehouse, then paint over it for now, and properly fix it later.

Kanon unlocks the shutter, and opens the storehouse.

In the mansion, Maria and George watch children's TV. Battler and Jessica mock it from the sidelines. Nanjo reads quietly in the corner.

Footsteps approach.

It's Genji, uncharacteristically out of breath. He whispers something to Nanjo, who leaves along with him at once.

They run into Natsuhi ont he way out, and she joins them as well.

The cousins finally pick up on something being wrong, and Battler suggests they go check it out, too.

In short, everyone but Maria.

The wind suddenly intensifies.

In the distance, the sound of thunder.

The adults are all at the storehouse. Despite their numbers, there is no bustle or activity.

Natsuhi tries, but it's too late.

The children cannot be kept from the truth.
