Let's Play Umineko, Episode 3 Scene 9: The First Beatrice
<< | ^^ | >>

Ronove
One of the Great Demons of the 72 pillars. Works for a Master in exchange for various forms of compensation. He currently has a contract with Beatrice as her butler (head furniture).
He has become proficient at housekeeping after serving in many households, so his ability as a butler is very high.
In the high society of witches, employing him has become a kind of status. Furthermore, the cookies he bakes are superb, and witches will often form a line demanding them.
He should hold a tremendous magical power, but since he is always serving his master, his battle abilities are unknown.

Beatrice the Golden seems unsure of how to react to the return of her teacher. She's displeased with the First Twilight being interrupted, at least.
Beatrice the elder doesn't approve of her student's whimsical games.

As Battler's resolve wavers in Purgatorio, Beatrice becomes able to summon more and more minions. The same effect also allowed her teacher to reawaken. She slumbered near to her student, just in case this exact thing happened.

Even the usually-impertinent Stakes realize that they'll be turned to dust if they interfere here.

BGM: Fake Red Shoes

The duel between master and apprentice begins.

Even fighting to this point, the teacher has yet to so much as open her eyes. This battle is just getting started!
Beatrice is determined to force her hand.

Two massive towers rise, Beatrice the younger floating between them.
720 ports open, revealing massive ballistas. Not even a cloud of butterflies could withstand this barrage.

Time for the teacher's turn!

To oppose the two towers, she uses one. The fallen Tower of Babel.
This will do for defense, but her attack isn't over. She needs a spear.

Beatrice's move was naive. The towers she was so proud of are only blocking off her methods of escape.
The teacher's turn ends with this. Back to the student!

Beatrice dismisses the towers, and uses their power to instead summon seven immense soldiers, each with a shield like a castle.
However, Gungnir is a spear of the gods. Even this won't be enough to block it.

The seven soldiers are supplemented - to block a divine spear, it takes a divine shield. So, Beatrice summons the Aegis itself.
Gungnir never strikes - it is a divine law that the absolute spear and absolute shield must not strike one another. The attack is diverted.

The giant soldiers drop their shields, and lift seven golden spears of lightning.

Beatrice answers one spear with nearly twenty thousand spears.
However, not one of them touches the teacher.

She's done playing around. Attacking from the flank, the divine spear Gungnir dissolves and takes a new form.

A divine hammer of unimaginable size and power comes down on Beatrice.
Beatrice conjures another war tower to hide behind. The hammer shatters, and is absorbed.

As Beatrice is forced into a full defensive battle, the light of the moon vanishes as something obscures it.

Gungnir is reborn, this time in the hands of one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Checkmate.

The garden has been restored. All that remains is Beatrice, run through and pinned to the ground by a massive spear.

Come, try to remember.
What kind of form did the Golden Witch have?

They will return to how things used to be. No more apprentices, no more masters.
Do you remember, teacher?

Something is behind the original Beatrice. It looks almost like a hedgehog.

Something is wrong here. The teacher appears to be already dead.

The actual battle was decided at the beginning. When the first Beatrice had prepared to attack with Gungnir, Beatrice had killed her with a massive attack from the two hidden towers.
However, Beatrice couldn't be satisfied with such a simple battle. She used her Endless power to revive her and continue the battle as if the attack had never happened.

And now the true sequence of events has righted itself. Beatrice the Golden wins. Beatrice the Elder loses.

With this, Beatrice surpasses her teacher. Out of respect for the dead, she asks Ronove to clean up. She leaves the details to him - another closed room is to be prepared...
