Let's Play Umineko, Episode 3 Scene 22: The Endless

<< | ^^ | >>

Ushiromiya Krauss

His corpse was found in the arbor of the rose garden. It is assumed that the cause of death was strangling by a thin object. A stake-shaped weapon was sticking out of his thigh.

If only there wasn't that stupid epitaph, I wouldn't have needed a stake. What a pain.

Ushiromiya Natsuhi

Her corpse was found in the arbor of the rose garden. It is assumed that the cause of death was strangling with a thin object. A stake-shaped weapon was sticking out of her calf.

Why follow the epitaph in the first place? A game?

Ushiromiya George

His corpse was found in the mansion's parlor. The weapon is assumed to be a gun or a spear-shaped object.

In exchange for his soul, the witch gave 8 numbers.

07151129: If you say it, a small Golden Land will be opened.

Nanjo Terumasa

His corpse was found in the hallway in front of the mansion's servant room. The weapon is assumed to be a gun or a spear-shaped object.

Just a little longer, and he probably would have been able to return alive. However, in the very end, the witch did not permit that.

Beato, who barely escaped with her life, is hiding in the hallway.

Jessica calls out for Kanon in her fear. If she dies, that love will be lost forever.

Love is the single element. Magic exists to bring happiness to humans.

To save her would be a meaningless gesture. If she lives here, she will still die at the banquet in the Golden Land.

However, that death would only come once. It would still be a mercy compared to what EVA-Beatrice has in store for her.

Saving Jessica will not be easy considering Beato's weakness, but there is still hope, just as their was for Shannon and George.

Jessica is calling out to Kanon for help.

Beato is naught but a wandering butterfly. She has nothing to lose.

Ronove watches what may be the final magic of a butterfly that was once a witch.

Jessica hears a voice.

Beato can't fully revive Kanon, but she can give him a brief time to help her.

She can't see, but she can feel his presence in the room.

Jessica needs to escape, but can't. Not as she is now.

So Kanon will be her eyes.

Step by step, she follows Kanon's instructions, heart overflowing with gratitude to the God or witch that allowed this miracle to reunite them.

However, it's only temporary. He cannot exist in this realm for long.

He promises that he'll stay with her until the end, and talk.

Of course, he'll need something to talk about... why not tell a story?

Her only condition is that he call her Jessica, not Milady.

The two of them head to the safe place that Kanon knows.

Ronove sees them as they sneak out. He says nothing to his new master.

A single golden butterfly appears to guide their way.

Protected by Kanon's magic and Beato's magic, Jessica escapes to the parlor. Kanon tells her to hide in the curtains by the window.

Beato urges them to hide, for their time is no doubt brief.

As Kanon acknowledges Beato as a good witch, she hides her form, leaving the parlor and closing the door. With the last of her magical power, she seals the door behind her.

She gives everything she has to ensure that they can spend their last moments together.

As she does, she notices that she's been detected.

The golden bow releases its deadly arrow.

BGM: Prison

Of course, she only survived the attack because the new Beatrice decided she should on a whim.

EVA-Beatrice interrogates her predecessor about the meaning behind her recent actions of sudden kindness. She claims it as nothing more than a fickle act of caprice.

The golden snake strikes again and again, but it won't help EVA-Beatrice understand Beato.

EVA-Beatrice rambles deliriously about the awesome power of the Endless Magic. Surely Beato must regret giving away such a wonderful toy.

Beato condemns EVA-Beatrice to the same fate that she suffered - to wander for a thousand years without understanding true magic.

The golden snake pierces Beato's heart, but still she doesn't die. If she dies, then Jessica and Kanon will follow, so she must cling to life.

Beato is not immortal. She gave up the Endless Magic.

But if her heart can beat just once more, it can extend the meeting between the two lovers by the same amount. She'll continue to resist, one heartbeat at a time, for all eternity.

The Siesta Sisters blow Beato's heart to pieces from the inside.

Her body dies, but the heart endures.

Ronove is the first to say it: No amount of weaponry could destroy that heart. Even the godlike power of the Endless Witch couldn't leave a single wound on it.

There is no endless without knowledge of the limited. Beato - Beatrice - is the true Endless Witch. EVA is a mere apprentice before her.

Kanon promises to never forget the favor that Beatrice has done for him and Jessica. She says she will listen to those words once the number of favors she has done surpasses the number of her sins.

EVA is now the predecessor. Beato has reclaimed the name of Beatrice.

Kanon disappears, and Beatrice's fragile form collapses.

With the last of the power left in her dying heart, Beatrice smiles.

Purgatorio

Battler, is it... ha... hahaha... after saying something so proud... I end up like this...

...I've been trying to become... the true witch you talked about... in my own way...
...Yeah. I was watching.
...Hey... have I now... been able to become... a witch...? Have I earned... the qualifications to become your opponent...?
It's useless.
...Ha... is that so... The road to becoming a true witch will still be much more difficult... However, I will not surrender... Just like you never surrendered to my torture... I will definitely... become a new witch... and be... accepted as your opponent...
Yeah, it's useless. It's all useless. You aren't my opponent.
