Let's Play Umineko, Episode 4 Scene 10: The Stuffed Animal
<< | ^^ | >>

Ange's words continue to echo in Sakutaro's head.

Maria assures him: He's not a stuffed animal of cloth and cotton. He's Maria's friend. Ange is cruel.

Eventually, Maria promises to stop crying. She got in a fight with Ange, but she still has lots of other friends, right?

They can't be with her all the time, or she'd get in trouble at school.
Still, though, one or two of the smaller ones might be able to sneak along with her, right?

This way, she won't be alone, wherever she goes, and she won't get in trouble with Rosa or her teacher.

Ange was never part of Maria's world in the first place. All this is is a return to normalcy.
From now on, the Mariage Sorciere will be restricted to Maria and Beatrice.

The four rabbits she took with her have fun conversations in her pocket. It makes class time more bearable.

Whenever Maria goes shopping for dinner by herself, she does it with Sakutaro in tow. Sometimes he gets an extra portion for free.

If the guys at the convenience store talk to Sakutaro, then they must be able to see him, too, right?
Some peope are just hopeless when it comes to such things.

As much fun as she's having, the people she buys food from eventually have to acknowledge a certain fact: There's a family with no father and with a working mother, with a daughter who seems to have no friends.
She's started to get a little bit of a reputation in the neighborhood.

This can't continue forever.

Uh oh.
She felt the key in her pocket when she got her dinner, and felt it again partway home. Where did it go?

It wasn't her fault. It wasn't her fault. It wasn't her fault.
Eventually, at Sakutaro's urging, Maria starts to double back, looking for the fallen key.

But it's nowhere to be found. Back home again, still no key.
Mama isn't coming home tonight, either. She's locked out.

The man at the convenience store suggests she go to the police.
But, she argues, mama told her never to talk to the police.

It's a pretty shady situation all around.
The third time Maria comes back to the store, a policeman is waiting for her.

Mama isn't coming home. If word of any of this gets back to mama, there will be trouble, even if Maria doesn't understand why.

Ultimately, Maria gives the nice policeman her mother's work number. What else could she do?

But she never was at work.

After that, Maria ends up at the police department overnight, answering various questions about her home life.

For the first time, Maria begins to wonder if her life might be pitiable.

The police come to talk to Rosa.
Maria listens to the exchange in secret.

The evidence against her is pretty strong. Can they prove that it was Maria, though?

Oh, yes they can.
All thanks to Sakutaro.

It's going to be okay.
Isn't it going to be okay?

This is the angriest Maria's ever seen her mother.
No, this isn't mother. This is an evil witch in her body.

The demon witch's gaze closes in on Sakutaro.

Maria tries to take the blame in Sakutaro's place.
But it's no use.

This doll is the reason Rosa had to talk to the police.

Yeah, the police officer is still there.
She pins Rosa's arms behind her back before someone gets hurt.

Maria eventually has to admit it. She's been going out with Sakutaro and the rabbits.

Earlier, the school called Rosa about her daughter bringing toys to school. She had shouted them down about false accusations levied against her daughter.
The school faculty, somewhat understanding that those toys were Maria's only friends, had decided to overlook it.

Rosa rages. The officer is unable to hold her back.

She picks up one of the four rabbits. A toy like a chess piece, a rabbit with a little trumpet.

One less friend in Maria's life.

The police officer interjects. How dare she call herself a mother after a display like this?
Maria and Sakutaro both try to keep her from getting mad at the police lady. It's not her fault.

Well, she's had enough.

BGM: Requiem

And in that moment, Sakutaro was no more.

The demon witch possessing Rosa speaks three words.

Beatrice can see the shadowy claws of anger and sadness tearing Maria apart.
The claws crushing her are her own.
