Let's Play Umineko, Episode 4 Scene 12: The Ushiromiya Head

<< | ^^ |>>

October 4th, 1986, 9:48 PM
26 hours, 12 minutes remain

The guests are retiring to the Guest House for the night!

In the mansion, the adults are talking about money a lot.

To be fair, isn't money great? If you lined up everything Battler wants, all the gold on Rokkenjima wouldn't be enough to cover the bill.

Shannon, on the other hand, says that the things she wants cannot be bought with money.

Teasing ensues. For Shannon and George, of course, but also for Jessica.

It seems that Kinzo is preparing for his big announcement: The distribution of his fortune.

Hahahaha! I wanted to leave the Joker called Kinzo face down a little longer, but it's probably about time to turn it over. Trump cards exist to be used!
Damn! My theory that grandfather was dead since the beginning is torn apart...
I had forseen that you would begin to doubt Kinzo eventually! All right, now your reasoning has all gone back to square one, right? With this, your theory that Kinzo was dead at the very beginning and I was hiding as the 18th person goes poof! Hahahahahahaha!
Fuck... But no way I'll lose heart. That's only one theory gone. I'll attack you like a storm, like a tornado...
Hahahaha, I'd have it no other way! Even the first twilight has not yet begun. It is far too early to give up.
That's right. And it's not like it was denied with the red truth, either. At this point in time, Battler's theory hasn't been defeated. It's too early to say that you've won.
Yeah, that's right. It's still too early for me to simply swallow her theory. Grandfather is supposed to finally appear, but there's a chance that he'll talk about how his health has gotten worse and not appear after all. Krauss might be desperately trying to hide the fact that grandfather really is dead until the last second.
Ha! I see, I see, you could also think of it that way. Do as you please. It will be resolved soon. Very soon...

Something has changed in the fourth game.

If Maria saw Kinzo, then the siblings' strategy has been destroyed already.

Kyrie, as usual, is the first one to question it. Maria says she saw Kinzo, but none of the others have.

Suppose, for instance, that Genji appeared, saying "Kinzo told me to give you this umbrella." She might count that as getting it from Kinzo himself, right? Maria's a child.

It's an odd puzzle, but ultimately a meaningless one. All they have to do is wait a little longer, and Kinzo will appear.

If Kinzo appears, treat him as if he's alive. Until then, treat him as if he's dead.

It's almost 10:00 PM - the promised time for Kinzo's appearance. Will he appear? Which truth will win out for tonight?

There is a knock at the door.

Kinzo wouldn't have knocked.

Apparently his order was to gather all the servants together, as observers. What is going to happen that's so important that it require five observers?

That's three. Only Kanon and Genji are missing, now.

Word is that they've gone to talk to Kinzo.

It's past 10 now. Still no sign of Kinzo.

20 more minutes. After that, they'll break into the study.

There is a knock at the door.

Genji speaks with the authority he only wields when speaking directly for the head.

BGM: Scorpion Entrails

The siblings change their attitude at once. They are nothing but respectful of their wholly-alive father.

It is time for Kinzo to announce his successorship plan.

Kinzo had planned from the start to bequeath everything to whoever solved the epitaph. However, no such person has appeared.

But now that is all in the past. Now, Goldsmith himself shall decide the victor.

Krauss always understood that he would be the next head, because Kinzo had said so. However, the title of head is not something you inherit quietly. It is something you earn with your own power. Power, money, talent, all are gained through the will to crush others as you seek the summit.

Krauss Ushiromiya shall not be the head.

The other three siblings were so weak that even together they couldn't corner Krauss.

Eva Ushiromiya shall not be the head.
Rudolf Ushiromiya shall not be the head.
Rosa Ushiromiya shall not be the head.

The Ushiromiya family ended long ago. What Kinzo sees before him now is naught but an illusion of gold, which shall vanish along with the fulfillment of Beatrice's contract.

The family in shock, Nanjo is the only one to speak up.

If money is the only thing of value in this life, then the time Nanjo and Kinzo spent playing chess was of no value. This argument is enough to give Kinzo pause.

While their accomplishments have not matched up to Kinzo's genius, the four of them have produced many riches which cannot be bought with money.

The gears begin to turn.

The value of these children may far surpass the wealth Kinzo poured into his family.

He asks them one by one. Natsuhi says she wouldn't give her daughter up for any amount of money. Eva says that George will some day build up a fortune far beyond this paltry sum. Rudolf boasts that Battler is capable of things that ten billion average people couldn't even imagine. Rosa says that her daughter's value cannot be measured.

Certainly, none of these four are worthy of being Kinzo's successor. But what about their children?

The ones questioned will be Kinzo's grandchildren. To their parents, nothing.

One by one, the siblings relent, saying they shall follow father's decision, whatever it may be.

Kinzo comes around to the true meaning of this family conference.

A ceremony.

13 people need to die.

What is he talking about? Is this some kind of weird metaphor?

Nanjo realizes for the first time that Kinzo was never joking about this plan.

Only two things can stop this dark ritual: The deaths of 13 people and the resurrection of Beatrice, or the death of Kinzo.

At Kinzo's summons, three bizarre figures appear in the dining room.

Siesta 00
Siesta Sisters Imperial Guard Corps Captain
Furniture of the Golden Witch
