Let's Play Umineko Chiru, Episode 6 Scene 9: The Gentleman

<< | ^^ | >>

Beatrice

A mysterious witch who existed even before the rules. She has the same name as Beato, but she wasn't given the goal of devoting herself to Battler.

The final version of the witch sealed away by Kinzo. She spends her days pulling small pranks and clearing away the magic-resisting toxin, all for the sake of her resurrection.

She is similar to the evil spirits of Akujikishima in many ways, such as her fear of spiderwebs.

She is the one who gave Shannon the golden butterfly brooch.

Following her battle against Erika, Maria sobs, surrounded by cold rain.

In the human world, George scolds Erika for that ridiculously spiteful conversation just now.

Jessica asks Shannon to lead Erika to her own room. The rest of the cousins will go to their room and play cards. Without her.

Before leaving, Maria demonstrates one of her strange mood swings. Erika encourages her to challenge her again at a later time. It's a promise.

Erika remains behind in the lounge, and asks Kumasawa to tell her all about Beatrice.

25 hours, 57 minutes remain

Later that night, George and Shannon talk in the garden.

Dealing with Erika is making George talk about the man he used to be. The sad little man. Adolescence is a difficult time for everyone.

What made him change?

Shannon, of course!

It's a common mistake. If all you think about with women is how to treat them properly, you sort of start to fear them.

It's painful to realize that you're actually a creep when you think you're a cool gentleman.

The turning point was feelings of envy, directed at Shannon and one other person.

BGM: Worldend (solo)

Back when they were younger, Battler and Shannon got along very well. Watching them was what motivated George to become a better man.

Stories of love are truly timeless. I never tire of them. However, I do find that expression of virgin disgust on your face even more charming.
...

George looked down on the inelegant Jessica and Battler. He assumed that, unlike his gentlemanly self, they had no hope of getting a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Later he came to realize that his 'gentleman' guise was just another name for a deification of the opposite sex.

I sort of understand. People like Battler and Jessica can get along with anyone, whether that person's a boy or a girl. I hate to say it, but I find guys who act too polite a bit creepy. It's like they're virgins trying too hard, or something.
People respect it when someone they are distant from is boring and harmless. However, they only like that person because he or she doesn't get in their way. No human would want to hang around with a boring person.
Of course. No idiot would want to be friends with an unmoving, unspeaking telephone pole. However, unmoving and unspeaking is eactly what you'd want from a telephone pole.
That's it. It seems as though George finally discovered that he wouldn't be viewed as an attractive man no matter how superior he was, and that he had been treated like a telephone pole the whole time.

What humbled him wasn't something Shannon said - it was the fact that she didn't say anything at all. That was when he realized that she got along with Jessica and Battler much better than with him.

Both of the cousins he grew up with had become much more charming, fun people than him.

That was when George swore to break out of his shell.

He's called Shannon his love at first sight, but that isn't true. What he felt could hardly be called love.

He was only ever able to become who he is because of her. The same is true for her, as well.

The two of them will share in each other's futures, and create a world of their own.

George will reveal their engagement tomorrow. There will be no more running away. Even if he must make the entire family his enemy.

Be quiet and watch.
Sure, fine. I'd hate to yawn and let some spectacular bit of foreshadowing slip by.
Do you have no love?
Are there any mysteries which accept love as proof? No, there aren't.

I do understand, more or less. Love can at least become a motive fo rmurder. I can interpret this scene beneath the arbor to represent a possible motive for the crime if their engagement is somehow impeded. Then again, no matter how much people talk of love with words that aren't red, it's all just an illusion.
That's very sad. You could never love a human without proof given to you by a witch.
Please put an end to this frivolous love talk. I'm your enemy, not a friend to hom you can talk about love just for the hell of it.

Lady Erika. Let us have him continue the game's PROGRESSION. Boring love scenes such as this are best finished QUICKLY.
Ah, you've got a point there. Sorry for butting in. Come on, let's move on.
