Let's Play Metroid

Zero Mission Chapter 6: Kraid Express





We're still right here!

Finally getting ready to disembark from Norfair.



The chillingly kickass Ice Beam and two missile packs have pushed us up to 16% item coverage!



Between the Ice Beam and the Power Grip, we can now safely leave this area!



Brinstar!

So good to be back.



I can still do the Charge Attack! That didn't stop being a thing when I got the Ice Beam or anything.



We have a long way to go, and it's getting easier every time!

Our destination is just about back to where the game started.



Even though I can freeze 'em, I still can't kill those buggers.



Back! To West Brinstar!



Now that I have the Ice Beam and Bomb, I can get in here!



I am met with a small but intense cavern!



Whole lotta bugs!



Not all crumbling underfoot blocks crumble instantly - these ones hold for about two seconds before letting you down.

And what's this? Some even greater mysterious weapon!



But it's sealed, once again, but an unknown block type...



Back on track with us!



But wait! The map says there's an item hidden in this map block...



Aha!

But how will I get to it? I can't jump nearly that high.



Normally, the answer would be "get it much, much later, with items I won't get until near the very end of the game".

I say screw that, time to bomb jump!

Enough faffing around, this is our destination room.



Unsurprisingly, the floor goes with with a few bombs!



Several screens of falling and fighting later, we're almost to the elevator!



This room's a touch more ominous than the last elevator was!



Into Kraid's lair we go!



Nice decor!

Let's take the red hatch.



Kraid's lair has a thing for acid!

It's all over the place.

That would have been harder to avoid than it was to get!



New enemies!

Nicely contained in cages, but they take quite a few hits to dispatch.



When something catches me off guard, the Morph Ball is a useful way to duck under attacks on the spot.



All sorts of stuff going on in this room!

Most importantly, the ground looks a little suspect.



Bonanza!

What is that strange device below?



A Morph Ball can lay in it!

And when I set a bomb...



It's gathering energy!





WHOA

THAT WAS AWESOME



Presenting the poor man's walljump!

You grab onto the ledge, angle away, jump, and grab onto the next ledge.



And eventually, that leads all the way to the top!



There's a strange device on the ceiling!

I don't have any way of interacting with it.



All the way on the right now!

No choice but to go down.



HEY WAIT WHAT WAS THAT BLUE BLOCK



With this ball launcher, I'll figure out!



After a couple trips up and down, I manage to blast it open!



It is, of course, a secret passage.



Gee, I wonder what goes in there!







Shazam!

I can now summon the rails by shooting these red buttons.



And if I jump onto one, it automatically carries me across the track!
