Let's Play Super Touhou Wars 2

Nazrin has two abilities - Nibbling Mouse (Next time Nazrin attacks someone, they take 10% more damage for the rest of the turn), and Clever Commander (-10% to all SP costs). I'll be using neither, since I never use Nazrin.



We've entered the netherworld! What awaits us here?

Stairs, is what. Lots and lots of stairs. Patchouli and her ilk are getting tired already.



In sight up ahead is Hakugyokurou, the estate that houses the Saigyou Ayakashi. Even from here, we can feel the power of spring gathered up ahead. It's a sleep feeling to Letty, who's a creature of winter.

However, the feeling of spring coming from ahead isn't its usual splendor. It's tainted with the death-like feeling of the Saigyou Ayakashi.



At this poing, Komachi, who's been to the netherworld before, has a pretty good idea of who's behind all this: The princess of the dead, Yuyuko Saigyouji.

However, she can't imagine why that girl would be doing this in the first place...



Chapter 32: Brink of Death on the Hakugyokurou Staircase





...So long! This is way too long.

There there, Patchouli! We're almost to the end...

Nothin' but stairs, forward and backward.

There's nowhere to stop and take a rest...

So you've come this far.

Youmu!



I said before that I'd show you no mercy when we met again.

Youmu! We fought together ast summer, so why are you helping with an incident now?

All is as lady Yuyuko commands.
Now, properly return the spring you stole to me.

It's no use, she won't listen...!

I was prepared for that. We're not giving you any spring!

...Of course it wouldn't be that easy.

Trying to stop us with sheer numbers, are they getting scared?

I'll use any means necessary to accomplish my goal.
I'll take the spring left in your bodies, and return it to milday!

Within 4 turns, bring half of your units to the top half of the staircase.



At 17x49 tiles, this is the tallest map in the game!

Enemy count is seven spirits, seven fairies, two fuzzballs, four and a half ghosts, and half of a human.



And it's time to charge!

Although they have a nasty evasion penalty, these danmaku zones have no defense penalty and almost no reduction to movement.



While our primary goal IS moving north, fighting the enemies is important as well! After all, the more fields we can eliminate, the faster we can move.



Gotta be careful here, as much as I can while charging ahead!

These enemies have fairly accurate attacks, and the fields just make that worse.



Turn 2!

My closest character is still 11 tiles short of the finish line.



More steady advancing, prioritizing targetting of the field-generator enemies!

Aya's sitting at a comfortable 0% chance to be hit here.



Since the goal is to bring not one but seven of us above the line, it'd be a waste to send Marisa careening on ahead. Clear the path!



Turn 3!

Marisa is now 6 tiles from the line, and seven of us are within 8 tiles. Looking good.

Notice that Youmu is getting closer to the line as well.



We're getting close enough to hit the fairy wall along the finish line!



Marisa is the first to cross!





Accordingly, she is the first to draw Youmu's fire! The battle has begun in earnest.

Not far into turn 5, all enemies save for Youmu have been defeated.



Almost got her, too!



Aya gets the finishing blow. Surely the battle will end right now!

1 Yojana is the distancce that the imperial army could march in one day. 200 Yojana would be about 2000-2500 km.

Also, the outer layer of this danmaku field is an impassable wall. Oh, boy!

Youmu's still using the same attacks as before!

This is actually a very bad sign. Let's take a look.

While inside this one, our armor is reduced by 250. It's a proper battle again!



Youmu is not super sturdy! In just a few attacks, I've got her down to four digits of HP.











Her damage output, however, is substantial.



This one doesn't even get a full turn!



Guh! Even that technique was defeated...!

You've gotten better. This is nothing like your techniques from before.

However, we're better.

Youmu, why not just stop fighting?
If you listen, I'm sure you'll see things our wa--

It was sink or swim, and it looks like we swam.

I don't like this kind of thing, but it seems to have worked.

Now that Youmu's been defeated, it's time for a little chat.



As implied before, Youmu knows next to nothing about the Saigyou Ayakashi. Not what it is, not what it can do.



Youmu is shocked by Patchouli's explanation of the cursed tree's power. Komachi, however, points out that Yuyuko herself might not know what the tree's true nature is.

Yuyuko herself could be in danger.



Right as we're about to head into Hakugyokurou, Youmu says she wants to cooperate with us once again. She'd be going to face her own master, but if Yuyuko doesn't know what she's doing, then this could be for her own good.

There are many things about Yuyuko's plan that Youmu doesn't know, and all that's left for her is to face her and learn the truth.



However, obtaining the Saigyou Ayakashi's power can't be Yuyuko's goal. As Youmu explains, Yuyuko herself has the power to take the lives of humans.

A cherry tree of death, and a departed princess of death. This incident is ramping up towards a thrilling finale...
