Let's Play Umineko, Episode 2 Scene 14.5: The Hidden Rules

<< | ^^ | >>

A moment of your time, dear readers. If you are like me, you are feeling a little bit confused and frustrated at this point. How can Battler be fighting to prove magic doesn't exist when surrounded by such obvious magical occurrences? What the hell is going on here?

This is an optional post, existing only to clarify some confusion that many readers may be experiencing at this point. It contains a certain degree of spoilers about the game's structure, which otherwise won't be addressed until Episode 3. If you want to continue unspoiled, go to the next post without reading this one. Otherwise, scroll down for some Red Truth.

For best effect, read the following one at a time, and scroll back up as soon as you are satisfied and ready to continue.

1. There are two different Battlers - one on Rokkenjima, and one in Purgatorio. The latter is Battler the player, the former is Battler the game piece.

2. Battler the player seeks only to prove that no magic or witches exist in Rokkenjima's world.

3. The story of Rokkenjima is not being told in red.

4. There is a pattern to which events we can trust as accurate, and which we need the Red Truth to verify. However, I will not tell you that pattern just yet.

5. If you use your wits, your intuition, your heart, and the Red Truth together, you can see through the Golden Witch's illusions and discover the truth. Good luck.
