Let's Play Umineko Chiru, Episode 5 Scene 8: The Storm
<< | ^^ | >>

Furudo Erika
Bernkastel's double and servant. Also a piece who has manifested in the human world.
Because she is human, she cannot use magic and the like. However, because she can appeal to Bernkastel on a higher-level plane to obtain miracles from this higher plane and various authorities that she can use, it would probably be no exaggeration to call her a human capable of wielding the power of a witch.
Through Bernkastel, she has been given the detective's authority while on the game board. Therefore, even though she is an outsider to the Ushiromiya family, she possesses the right to demand full attention from everyone when speaking, the right to advance proceedings, and the right to investigate the crime scene before the police arrive, as well as many other special abilities.
She gets pleasure from the process of solving riddles, but her greatest joy comes from using that victory to sneer at others.

October 4th, 10:00 PM
26 hours remain

Beatrice cautions Natsuhi: Tomorrow will be harder. The family is already quite suspicious.

Someone is on to them. For another 36 hours at a minimum, they must endure.
The closed room strategy won't work for another day.

The plan is now the same as last year - Kinzo will leave the study, but remain in the shadows. When you can't withstand a siege, abandon the castle.

But how will this work? They have no plan, no resources, and no time to prepare.

There's another variable at work here - Lady Bernkastel's piece, Furudo Erika. Bernkastel may already have a plan for breaking open the barrier.

Who is the visitor from 19 years ago? Is he on this island now?
Why are so many unknown variables piling up at the last minute? What's happening on this island?

The fact of the matter is that the study will no longer be able to withstand a frontal assault at this point.

Don't stop thinking. There must be a solution.
Believe, and that conviction will become the magic to carry through the next day.

Krauss went to bed early, shifting all the burden of this battle on to Natsuhi.
Another visitor drops by.

Mating Shogi is a variation on Shogi where one side has no king, and thus can't be defeated. The other side can only win by escaping checkmate for a set number of turns.

There is one last gambit available to Natsuhi's side - for Kinzo to disappear.

It will create massive suspicion, but those suspicions will be impossible to prove.
36 hours, or even an eternity, wouldn't be enough for them to prove Kinzo's fate.

This will be the Ushiromiya family's lowest point. However, Natsuhi wouldn't be the first to revive the glory of the family name from nothing.

For now, they can fight using the seige strategy, with Gaap's plan as a last resort.

Outside, Battler and Erika are fiddling with some kind of mechanism.

They solved the epitaph.

Again, Erika says she doesn't need money. The riddle itself is enough.

In other words, if this really does lead them to the hidden gold, won't Battler be the new head?
Jessica was talking about about her father being the head. Erika wonders what kind of expression she'll have tomorrow.

Erika still seems to fixate on using the victory to sneer at the others.
Is it just Battler's imagination, or does she have a really bad personality?

Fundamentally, Erika only has one pleasure in life: Making her opponent surrender, whoever they might be.

Was bringing Erika along on this little adventure really a good idea?

Maybe it would have been better to leave the epitaph unsolved...

The silhouette is watching Battler.
And it's...

Kinzo had been watching them the whole time, as they solved the epitaph.
From the shadows, he smiles faintly.

Ushiromiya Kinzo accepts this result. Wordlessly, he extends one hand, pointing into the darkness.

Only Battler saw it. Kinzo once again fades into the shadows.

Battler nudges Erika in the right direction, thanks to a tip from Kinzo. Erika's a little confused, but follows anyway.

Now, Kinzo truly has no regrets. He can join Beatrice in peace.

Yup. There it is.

Battler considers keeping it a secret. Erika won't consider the idea, of course.

For Erika, the lock is its own purpose. If there's a lock, she'll unlock it, to hell with what's inside the box.

Keeping this under wraps will be impossible with Erika here.
What's reflected in her eyes is the uproar to come when the announcement reaches the family. A treasure sweeter than any gold.
