24 hours remain

Everyone is silent in the dining hall. Eventually, Eva orders Kanon to open the door.

Shannon suggests that maybe it was Kinzo. He's the only person in the mansion who might refuse to give their name at the door while diong something weird like this.

It's one of Kinzo's envelopes, at least, without a doubt.

Well, why not read it?

The object is Kinzo's ring. Furthermore, the letter is signed by the Ushiromiya family alchemist, Beatrice.

Well, that settles that! Battler better put on that ring.

At the moment Battler puts on the ring, Krauss and Genji arrive.

When Genji points out the ring, Krauss's expression changes to one of shock...

20 hours, 59 minutes remain

The conference officially ended at 1:00, but the external squabbles continued for another two hours. Lucky Rosa, who managed to slip away hours ago.

Absolutely no progress was made. No agreements, no compromises.

Gohda and Nanjo are chatting when Battler arrives in the guest house.

Erika's awake too, of course. Does she ever sleep?

She hasn't said a word to them about the big secret.

Battler's arrival made everyone realize how late it is. Time to call it a night.

When Battler returns to his room, Jessica and George are already asleep.

Without even stopping to change, he passes out as well.

That was what Rudolf said before Battler abandoned the conference for the night.

Same as the first episode - he says he'll probably be killed if he talks about it.

It's probably something about the Ushiromiy family succession nonsense. Not interested.

All that matters is getting some sleep...

BGM: Melody

All this changed, 18 years ago. That was when Natsuhi was finally able to bear a child.

No doctor was able to explain to her what the problem was. This was a good part of why Eva started to get so ambitious.

This was also why Kinzo started donating so much money to the Fukuin House orphanage.

An adopted child...

Natsuhi couldn't bear a successor, so Kinzo picked one out for her.

Filled with pain, Natsuhi prayed to angels to fix her body, and prayed to demons to make that adopted baby disappear.

Both wishes were granted.

She didn't just leave her with the servant - she ordered the servant to take the child somewhere where its cries wouldn't reach her.

That day, she wished with all her heart that that servant would never return.

Just like the human Beatrice of old, they fell.

It's not Natsuhi's fault. That servant and that child were killed by demons.

19 years ago, a middle-aged servant walks along a small path through the woods.

The baby sees a cloud of gold butterflies.

The servant sees a woman.

She can't disobey. Beatrice lures her towards the cliffside.

In a garden of golden roses, the witch of Rokkenjima beckons her to join their tea party.

Gaap snaps her fingers, and the servant and child fall through a hole, emerging far, far above the garden of gold.

In their final moments, the two are surrounded by the roar of the sea.

Unsure of what just happened, Natsuhi runs back to the mansion to report the deaths.

Natsuhi and Kinzo were the only other people on the island. The baby appeared out of nowhere, and three days later, it disappeared again.

But Kinzo is, strangely, unperturbed by this development.

From that day on, he buried himself even further in his study of the occult.

Those three days were just a bad dream. Why bother remembering it?

The human world, though, isn't a world of red truths. That baby could come back, alive as ever.

Even if the baby wasn't really alive.

A 19th guest, back from 19 years ago.

This is really starting to get interesting!
