Let's Play Umineko Chiru, Episode 6 Scene 22: The Tilted Scales

<< | ^^ | >>

The men left behind by the deaths of the women lament that they were not able to do anything about it. The rooms were even locked and chained!

So how did Battler and Maria get in? Doesn't that mean that it wasn't actually locked up?

How those two entered the locked mansion is another mystery.

No good - there's a chime in the servant room that goes off every time the front door opens. Gohda would've heard it.

Right?

Gohda was the only servant on duty in the mansion at the time. There are just too many unknowns to get anywhere like this.

Not that it matters. The culprit could have come in before the door was locked and hidden in the mansion. There's no need to start pointing fingers this early. Their hate should be directed at the culprit, not each other.

Besides, there are three adults with guns here. The culprit wouldn't dare make a move under these circumstances.

Rudolf agrees to a defensive strategy. If they were to die now, what would happen to Ange back home?

The most important thing is for everyone to survive.

Time to start surviving! Some people go up to check on the cousins and servants, some people start locking up.

All right, now all the servants are upstairs.

The mansion was locked from the inside. The ones in the mansion were those involved with the family conference. One of them is probably the culprit.

Gohda was with the rest of the group for quite a bit of time. When would he have snuck away to murder six people?

Maybe it wasn't him, but he was the one who let the real culprit into the mansion.

Furthermore, Maria and Rosa were both killed in the Parlor, with no sign of a struggle. They would have had to have been killed at the same time, or there would have been screaming.

The culprit is more than one person, who can move easily through the mansion, who aren't suspicious to the victims.

The servants.

The chains were set because, if they weren't set, all suspicion would immediately fall on those who held the master keys.

But how did they do it?

If a mailman delivers a letter into the wrong mailbox, they need to get it out somehow. A wire with a loop at the end can be used to fish it back out without having to disturb the mailbox owner.

Maybe the servants had something similar to work chain locks.

Physically speaking, this could be true. It makes sense for Rudolf and Hideyoshi to buy it.

All Erika's doing here is manipulating the thoughts and feelings of the suspects to her advantage. After all, the closed rooms could not have been constructed from the outside.

It feels strange. I used to think that the witch's side had such a huge advantage, but now that I'm on that side, I see that that's ridiculous. It's almost like that game where you stick knives in a barrel and try to not stab the mustache guy inside.

The old me played games like that all the time.
Yeah, it's almost like Russian Roulette. Even so you believed that I would eventually notice, and stretched those games out to the limit.
...It may be impudent of me to ask, but what is it that you noticed, Battler?
...It's the exact opposite. In the past, only you remembered, and only I forgot. But this time, it's the other way around.
Would you mind telling me what it is?

...If you can't tell me, then I won't ask. If I have displeased you, please forgive me.
Don't worry about it. I'm just stubborn.

How do you feel about this game? Do you think you can win?
I intend to win. I'll win, and end this eternal torture, just like Beato wanted.
When it ends... what will happen to this world?
Who knows? However, that is what we wished for. So, no matter what the result is, I'll accept it.
...What will happen to me?

The game will probably disappear. But now, I completely understand magic. So, I'll be able to carry you off the game board. I think that was your wish.
My wish?
The rest is a secret. I'll be waiting for you to remember all of that by yourself.

Well then, I'll go check on my opponent for a bit. I can't wait to see what kind of twisted logic that idiot thinks up next.

Aaaaahhh, the highlights of my dark past... please forget that ever happened...
Yes, I will try.

When Battler leaves, the other Beatrice takes his place.

Yes... I want to know more about you. And, I want to know what the real me is like. I want to become like that.
Of course. I also want to know about my future self. Didn't we reveal everything about ourselves to each other for that purpose? However, we did not become one. I cannot understand what we must do to become our single self.
What can we do to become one...
I have high hopes for the trials of Zepar and Furfur.
You mean the miracle of magic given to the victors?
I wonder if that magical miracle means becoming one. I will find my true form. You will fulfill Battler's wishes. Battler will also be happy, and all of us will suddenly have what we want.
This is a trial, right?
It means we cannot lose to the other two pairs.

...Why must the scales be so tilted?
Tilted?
Some people will find love, others won't. In that case, you can put those two groups on a scale. However, the scales for our trial have three plates, and two must lose for one to win. That seems horribly tilted...
Who knows? It might mean that successful love is worth two destroyed loves. You're too insecure, little sister. If you can't put your desire to answer to Battler's expectations before your uncertainty of what happens to the losers, you won't be able to win anything.
...You're right. I won't give up our vicctory. I don't like doing this to the others... but there will be no hard feelings between us and them.
