Let's Play Umineko Chiru, Episode 7 Scene 19: The Last Tale - Sprout of Love, Root of Love

<< | ^^ | >>

Krauss and Natsuhi are out late. It's just the girls in the mansion.

Which means, of course, the topic of the evening is love.

What about Shannon? Is she after anyone right now?

Not saying anything out loud, of course. Jessica demands that Shannon promise not to get a boyfriend before she does.

Sunday afternoon passes peacefully.

But she can't ask that. To ask is to not fully trust.

No matter how long, until he comes back, on his white horse. She'll wait.

The new maid thinks that promises from guys are just generally no go. Guys and girls just can't understand each other.

So many girls spend so much time overthinking something a guy just said for no real reason.

Is Battler really coming?

He doesn't come to the 1982 conference, either.

Maria is five, and having fun playing with her cousins.

George and Jessica don't talk about Battler any more.

It seems that the falling out was worse than everyone thought it would be. There's still no sign of his return.

Wherever he is, he's probably happy with his new life.

So, there's no reason to worry, right?

Is Battler living happily, having totally forgotten his promise?

Shannon has believed in Battler for two years, despite the voices telling her to lose hope.

The Shannon looking at the mirror says the trial must be overcome.

The Shannon within the mirror replies.

Everyone on the island has half-forgotten about Battler. Even Rudolf.

It's like they're trying to erase his existence from their hearts.

She will endure God's trial.

All she wants in exchange is some proof that she hasn't been forgotten.

Battler still hasn't returned.

Not a word is spoken of Battler. It's as if he never existed in the first place.

News! He still exists after all!

Apparently Battler is doing quite well. Even if he makes up with Rudolf, though, he doesn't intend to return to the family.

Still...

These three years, Shannon's love has only grown.

Here it is. Word from Battler himself.

Was Shannon's prayer actually answered?

In each letter, Battler writes about all the fun he's having in his life.

But isn't one missing?

There's no letter for Shannon.

These letters are another trial from God.

But this is as far as she can go.

No way. Then, that promise about him coming for you was...
I was a dreamer. It was just an illusion I created. To Battler, they were probably just meaningless words to make him sound cool.

This is Battler's sin.
Making Shannon think that it was a promise...
Wrong.
Huh?
It's that he didn't even remember.
If he simply broke his promise... I could have scolded him. I could have regretted, or I could have recovered. However, since he didn't even remember, I am unable to question him about it.

It was nothing more than a sad joke.

It would be easier to hate him. All Shannon can hate is her own arrogance that created the illusion of love.

The bud of love in Shannon's heart has become too painful to bear.

It would be easy to remove the root if she hated Battler, but she wasn't even allowed that.

With each word, the bud grows stronger, the roots dig deeper.

This pain will be inside Shannon forever.

For three years, Beatrice tormented Shannon with an illusion of a promise that was never made.

Impossible. The bud cannot be erased any more.

If nothing is done about the bud of love, it will kill her.

Without Battler, the universe of their love has been destroyed.

Beatrice will give Shannon a new universe.

A boy who Shannon was always close to at Fukuin House, who Shannon loves like a brother. With this, Shannon's universe can be maintained.

But what about the bud of love? It still won't be destroyed.

The bud of love will be transferred from Shannon to Beatrice.

Shannon will create a new universe with a new person.

Beatrice shall act as the keeper of Shannon's love for Battler, until such time as it isn't so painful.

Yasu's universe changes again.

The new member of this universe will be given a name to go with Shannon's.

A quiet boy who comes to Rokkenjima as a new servant.

Beatrice now lives two lives. One as the thousand-year-old witch, and one who has been waiting for Battler for three years.

Beatrice is reborn, and Shannon gains a friend.

The bud of love will go to the witch for now, but only until Battler returns.

Shannon barely remembers a dream. A calm, strange dream.

What was his name again?
