Let's Play Mother 3
Chapter 2: Thief Adventure
Part 5: The Hummingbird Egg
Since we have PSI now, the game is gonna make sure we use it!

Most of the monsters in this area are vulnerable to some kind of PSI. These ones, for example, take about 140 damage from PK Freeze, while Duster hits for 5 damage.

Fortunately, they're kind enough to drop PP recovery items.

Rooooooope Snaaaaaaaaake

Ominous!

Here are the fabled Brooms.
What do they do?

They do those.

And now we have to start the whole area over!
During our trip back up:

What could it mean?!

Word on the Wind
Greetings!
I apologize for being so sudden, but you know the phrase, "The word on the wind is..."? Yeah, I'm that wind. I'm where rumors come from.
It appears that one of your friends is not feeling very well. She isn't poisoned, nor is she sleepy, yet she just can't get rid of that ill feeling. She lacks the energy to run, and using items or hot springs don't appear to help, either.
It would seem this is because something is beginning to awaken inside her. But I'm sure she'll get over it before long, so don't be too worried.
Well, that's all for this "Word on the Wind". I should be going now. Bye!
*whoosh*

With Kumatora's fever still in effect, I manage to get past the brooms unswept.
Then, right before the end of the segment, Kumatora's fever goes away!

PK Thunder is more powerful than PK Freeze or Fire, but it hits a random target, and has a chance to hit nobody.
But more importantly:

I have healing magic!
Anyways, onwards.

I think we found our theft item.

Wess
This is where I hid it. Duster. This is the "certain important item" I had instructed you to bring back. It seems to be known as the "Egg of Light", or the "Hummingbird Egg".
Truth be told, not even I know anything about this egg. The Hummingbird Egg is a ball of secrets inside secrets that are inside even more secrets... or something like that, supposedly, apparently.
Kumatora
And now that ball of secrets is needed. If this wound up in the wrong hands, the lid on the secrets would come undone, and... bad things would happen.

Wess
Not even I know...
In any case, this Hummingbird Egg is our secret.
Kumatora
But doesn't it seem kinda ridiculous that the egg of a tiny li'l hummingbird holds all of the world's secrets?
Wess
Indeed, it is quite ridiculous. But what's most ridiculous of all is this moron standing here.
Duster. This egg gives off such a thick scent of secrets that's so concentrated, it almost reminds me of condensed milk. Yet, you couldn't even catch a single whiff of it! That's how much of a moron you are! You're a failure as a thief!
Kumatora
You shouldn't keep callin' your own kid a moron like that. 'Cause if he really is a moron, he wouldn't understand anyways.
Anyways, we can't let the bad guys get their hands on this egg.
Then...

It's boss time!
Now that we have two party members, our old tactic of putting the enemy to sleep is less viable, since Kumatora's spells would wake it back up. So instead, Duster's gonna go straight for the debuffs.

Debuff and buff power is based on the base value of the stat in question. The last boss we fought lost 11 Offense to this move.
In other words, the Oh-So-Snake packs a serious punch.

Kumatora, meanwhile, is slinging PK Thunder whenever possible, and Lifeup when HP gets low.

With offense decreased, the tailslap isn't too potent, but it hits both Duster and Kumatora. But, that's not what I'm worried about...

This is. The tidal wave does 50+ damage to both party members, making it the most powerful enemy attack yet encountered.

Kumatora's down to 0 HP! But wait! It's not over yet!
You see, in Mother 3, when you run out of HP, you're still able to take actions until the HP counter finishes rolling down to zero. Let's hurry!

Thanks to the power of PK Lifeup, Kumatora is saved at the last second!

After using the big wave attack, the boss is mercifully disabled for a short time, during which we heal up Duster as well.

Not long after it gets back up, we send the Oh-So-Snake packing.

Hey, look! I'm Kumatora now!

And a new power's coming on!
Something's going on in the middle of town...

Butch
Old man Wess! Where's Duster, that scumbucket?!
He's the only one I told about the money I hid in the well... and now it's gone! Which means Duster stole it! That was MY money!
Lisa
We've already asked a thousand times, but where did you get it in the first place? And besides, what IS "money" anyway?!
Brenda
This sounds all too fishy if you ask me.

Look who's back!
Butch
Look, Wess and Duster are both thieves! But they never did anything before, 'cause we never had anything to steal in our village! But we know they'd steal good stuff like money if they ever saw it!
Kumatora
Alright! Shut yer hole and listen, punk!

Butch
No violence! NO VIOLENCE!
Flint
...
Old man Wess. Let's just all of us calm down. Kicking up a fuss won't help us figure out anything, especially with Duster gone.
The villagers and I believe you. So, for now, let's just wait for Duster to come back.
Wess
Duster, you moron... you better come back soon...

However, not everyone is content to sit quietly by as the enemy continues its odious attacks from every angle.
Flint, whose family bonds were torn to shreds...
Wess and his son Duster, the Thieves of Justice...
Princess Kumatora, the mysterious girl who suddenly appeared...
Destiny is bringing together those who would use their power for good.
And what has become of Lucas, the crybaby...?
