Let's Play Super Touhou Wars

<< | ^^ | >>

Upgrades!

I only have one person here I can upgrade, and that's Sakuya. Time to start making her unhittable!

Cleaning duty complete!

Sakuya takes a moment to reflect on the world beyond this mansion, where those strange humans came from.

A fairy maid reports that Patchouli wants some tea brought to the library. For two.

In the library, Patchouli is hanging out with Alice!

They're discussing the properties of a certain magical stone. Because they are nerds.

There is further discussion of Grimoires and Makai and Stuff.

Sakuya arrives with tea! She is surprised to see Alice.

As soon as Alice mentions Flandre, Sakuya quietly excuses herself with a strange expression.

While Patchouli and Alice are talking at great length about FUCK ALL, there is a sudden loud noise from upstairs!

Sakuya Route, Chapter 2: The Swaying Lunar Clock

Sakuya's just out here! She's wondering what that noise was, too.

...Damn it, Marisa.

Alice puts two and two together, determining that her house isn't the only one that Marisa is flagrantly stealing books from.

Marisa has summoned several grimoires from the shelves! Can she control them?!

Also Koakuma showed up.

Interrogationi reveals that Marisa somehow tricked Koakuma into teaching her how to use grimoires.

Marisa will now use them to slow us down while she snags some books for herself!

Several points are marked on the map as the books Marisa is interested in - our goal is to reach at least half of them before she does.

There are five books, so we need to hit 3 to win. Bonus condition is to destroy all Grimoires.

ALL RIGHT, GANG, LET'S SPLIT UP

As she joins the fray, Sakuya muses that the trouble never stops at the mansion, even after all this...

Sakuya can take down a book in one shot with Misdirection!

These are the same book enemy types from Patchouli's second battle in the main game - long, narrow danmaku fields and powerful but innacurate lasers.

Marisa snags a book on her first turn! She is now leading 0 to 1.

Marisa says that the people here worry about work too much, and should chill out, maybe have some tea.

Sakuya points out that someone who has stolen dozens of books shouldn't say something like that.

LET'S GO

The dammn danmaku fields are slowing me down! This is gonna be close.

This means that it is in our best interest to fan out and kill books wherever we can!

By her second turn, Marisa is already dangerously close to the second book!

I'm gonna abandon protecting that one and go for broke on the remaining three.

One of the danmaku fields cleared out!

This should make advancing into Marisa's path much easier.

To make matters worse than the already were, Marisa uses Accelerate after getting the second book. Now she's even faster!

Fortunately, I HAVE A PLAN.

USING THE MAZE-LIKE STRUCTURE OF THE LIBRARY AGAINST MY ENEMIES

BOOKBLOCKED

This is Marisa's possible move range now. She'll probably try and loop around to get the southmost book, but I can beat her there with Alice!

Koakuma is pulling her weight, even beyond being a roadblock!

And once Marisa moves, she takes up position again! We have Marisa locked down, pretty much.

Alice claims a book! The score is now 1-2, Marisa's favor.

And Sakuya claims a second!

With only one book left, Marisa uses Accelerate again, but that just puts her in the same dead-end situation as last turn. Might as well take it easy at this rate, until we can meet the bonus condition.

Fuck yeah magic wall!

One Grimoire left!

Last one down!

Bonus condition met!

And last book grabbed. Victory!

Marisa has been bookblocked!

Alice hopes that this will help her understand that stealing is bad*

Marisa is, however, nothing if not a good sport, and agrees to return the books she snagged this time, having lost the game.

STAGE 2 CLEAR

After the battle, the book-sorting party continues! Marisa has a lot of these things.

She says she was gonna give 'em back anyway. Eventually.

Sakuya wonders what Meiling was doing while this thief snuck in. Probably sleeping, according to Patchouli.

Marisa confirms this theory.

Koakuma talks about how Marisa snuck up behind her and forcer her to do her nefarious bidding.

There is much agreement about how horrible Marisa is. Marisa insists that Koakuma is making shit up at this point.

Patchouli tells her to return the books she stole before if she wants to be trusted. Marisa says she's just borrowing them until she dies.

ANYWAY, Marisa's going home now, and Alice is going with her. To get her damn books back.

When she complains, Patchouli reminds her that she lost the danmaku battle, so she should own up and man up.

With the two of them gone, Patchouli and Sakuya contemplate what the hell Marisa's deal is.

Sakuya figures her thought process is "being human, I could die at any moment, so until then I'll do whatever I want". Very human-like, Patchouli says.

When it is suggested that Sakuya is using a similar outlook regarding the mansion, Sakuya insists that she stays because Remilia is her mistress. Patchouli counters that yes, Remi brought her here in the first place, but nobody is keeping her here by force. She should live life as she chooses.

Thinking on this, Sakuya excuses herself for the moment.

What will you choose, Sakuya Izayoi...

To be continued

* It won't.
