Let's Play Super Touhou Wars 2

<< | ^^ | >>

We've picked up a few more special skills over the last few chapters! I'm just gonna go through everyone here and cover the remainder that I haven't looked at.

REIMU: Intuition (Acccuracy -10%, Critical hit rate +20%)
KEINE: Meddler (+1 Trust level with Mokou)
MARISA: Barrier Amplify (+300 magic barrier power)
ALICE: Dannmaku is Brains (+10% Critical Hit damage)
KOMACHI: Unbroken Path (2 uses, infinite attack range for 1 battle), No Ambition (HP Regen, but -20 starting Power), Ferryman's Toll (+10% earned points)
SUNNY: Reflection (for 1 turn, Sunny and adjacent allies can't be targetted except on counterattacks), Sun Fairy (15% HP regen on sunny maps), Fairies of Light (+2 trust to and from Star and Luna), Sunny Barrier (+500 barrier power)
SAKUYA: Knife Parry (Cut down danmaku by burning MP)
DAIYOUSEI: Gallant (+15% healing power, -5 MP cost), Supporting Cast (+2 trust with Cirno), Rejuvenation (+500 HP restored when using Trust), Do Your Best (+5 to all stats)

ELLY: Perdition (Critical rate increases as enemy gets closer), Tile Barrage (For 1 turn, attacks will stun enemies), Gatekeeper (Same as Meiling)
KURUMI: Vampire (20% of damage inflicted restored as HP), Break The Sabbath (Next attack prevents evasion or defense)
PATCHOULI: Unmoving Great Library (When not moving, attack range increases next turn)
KOAKUMA: Koa Booster (Resupply can be used after moving), Devil's Contract (Select an ally, they recover 10% MP and lose 5 Power every turn)

Back at the Hakurei Shrine! Some familiar faces are here.

Shizuha seems to have roped Tengu A and Tengu B into helping lug in a whole bunch of booze. Apparently this is a huge sake supply that used to belong to the oni, but they left ages ago, so nobody's using it.

And these two autumn gods are taking care of the food. It's gonna be a hell of a party!

Kanako is trying to get Reimu to fetch her drinks, but doesn't she have her own shrine maiden for that? Good lord, everybody's here.

Aya is trying to spread publicity for her newspaper, Akyu is impressed that Reimu complains equally to humans, tengu and gods, Meiling and Sakuya are trying to get Patchouli to be more sociable, Sanae is trying alcohol in the name of the new faith of Gensokyo.

It's Nitori! And Hina!

Nitori is trying to find the right time to approach Marisa, because their last encounter was so violent. Also because Nitori is socially awkward.

In the end, Marisa solves the problem by harassing Nitori. As it turns out, nobody is mad at Nitori, even a little.

The Three Fairies, along with Cirno and a reluctant Daiyousei, seem to have their heart set on stealing the booze! They are caught almost immediately by Keine.

But wait! Our party is interrupted, there's a storm of fairies coming this way!

Chapter 24: A Toast to Danmaku

Oh, it's the shrine. Just as run-down as ever.
...wait, why did we come here?

Uhh... it was probably to play danmaku...

Maybe the power of danmaku launched us into the future?!

What's all this noise?

Fairies are gathering around the shrine for some reason.
They don't seem to have any particular goal in mind... what's going on here?

I don't see any youkai out there, so maybe it's just a prank...
Well, this should be a chance to blow off some steam!

I didn't know you had that kind of hobby, but this should make a good side show for the party!

After all the preparations we did, you just come and attack the place? No forgiveness!

I'll make you all feel the fury of autumn!

Huh, Hina's helping out too?

I came here for the party, so helping fend off some fairies is the least I can do.

You're nicer than I thought. If we had known that, we might have shown some mercy back on the mountain.

Hey, weren't we nice from the start?

If the other gods are pitching in, are you guys just gonna watch?

There's no need for us to step in for something this trivial.
Give us a good show, using the same fighting spirit you used to defeat us!

Aren't you just being lazy?

Then in your place, I shall... oogh...

Maybe you should lie down.

F... Forgive me...

You're still new to this whole drinking thing, aren't you?

Naw, she's just getting started! You've barely gotten through the head on your beer.

Momiji go ahead and send Sanae to bed for now.

Hey, don't use my futon without asking!

There's no relying on them. Let's just do this ourselves.

Yeah, before we sober up!

Victory Conditions
All enemies defeated.

Defeat Conditions
All allies defeated.

Bonus Condition
?

A number of new characters to play with! And our enemies are fifteen fairies. Hell, they don't even outnumber us.

Also, some new characters to play with!

Potentially handy trick: Anyone standing on the enormous booze barrel recovers MP every turn.

Shizuha is a middleweight with some neat support abilities - she has a spirit command that gives any ally 100% accuracy for a turn.

Minoriko is heavier than her sister, but not as nimble. If I deploy her and she isn't shot down, I get a healing item after the map!

Hina is serviceable, but forgettable. She'd be quite good if she had Focus, but she doesn't.

None of these three are likely to reach my A-list.

And now, the fairy beatings commence!

One nice thing about Hina is that Pain Flow is ammo-based and long-range, making it not hard at all for her to use her strongest attack serially.

Remember how Nitori made a crack in the last game about nicknames? Well, she actually went through with it!

This is actually Full Armor Nitori, who has a Cost of 2.5 instead of her usual 2, and is a bit slower, but her armor and attack power are higher.

Secret conversation scene engage!

I guess he's still not here...

Hey, Reimu, what are you doing over there?

Oh, I'm just looking for an old pet.
He's not here, but I guess he'll show up if he wants to show up.

Even if he did, he wouldn't be any help, would he?

At the end of the turn, some PC98 enemies appear!

This time it's those crazy Evil Eyes!

Crazy...? Aren't those Elly's familiars?

Yeah, if I don't summon them, there shouldn't be any here in Gensokyo...
Kurumi, is this your fault?!

Yeeeeek, I'm sorry, Ellyyy! You didn't say anything, so I summoned some on the mountain!
And now it looks like there's more than ever...

So I guess you brought a new invasive species to Gensokyo.

But why are the gathering at the shrine? Something's up here...

Who cares why they're here? Let's just get rid of 'em.

New enemies on the field!

That's three ghosts and three evil eyes. Counting what I've already defeated, we're back up to eleven enemies.

Then, ONE TURN LATER...

Oh, it's those birds from the mountain.

They're probably after our food!

That's not good. Maybe they were attracted by the smell of our kitchen scraps.

I don't think that applies to youkai crows...

More enemy reinforcements! Four youkai crows. Total enemies from turn 1 is up to 25.

OH COME ON you didn't even wait a full turn this time.

Something else is coming... wait, those are...!

Grimoires from the Great Library!

This must be Marisa's doing again!

Whoa, hey, this isn't my fault! Did Patchouli call them?

I didn't do anything. They shouldn't be able to move without my commands...

I've had it, something's definitely going on here!

I can't place it, but I'm getting a weird feeling about this whole situation.

Hey Kanako, do you think this could be...

It looks like someone with an interesting power has come along.

Three more enemies! That's 28 now.

They're still a bunch of chumps, though. Mop-up continues.

Aw geez, there's no end to these guys!

They're still just small fry, but... if they keep coming at this rate, it could be bad.

Something still feels off about this. Is there an incident going on?

Sharp as ever, I see.

Excuse me for interrupting your little adventure.

You're Yukari Yakumo!

So you've decided to show yourself. You're the one behind this youkai gathering, aren't you?

Of course not. What reason would I have?

Isn't making things suddenly appear out of nowhere kind of your thing?

I'll take that as a compliment.

If you have nothing to do with this, why are you here?

I just stopped by to check in on an old acquaintance.
Everything's a game to her. If this keeps up, you'll be harassed by youkai like this every day.

And do you know who this mysterious 'she' is?

But of course. Here, I'll let you see her too.

Suika Ibuki
Tiny Night Parade of One Hundred Demons
Species: Oni
Rank: EX
Strength: S
Moderation: D
Blood Alcohol Content: SS

[ BGM - Million Oni Rascal, One Girl Army ~ Onigashima Fairyland ]

Aw, come on, Yukari... oh, she left already.

...!

Huh, who's that? Where did she come from?

I was here from the start, you just didn't notice.

No way, those horns... is she what I think she is?

There's no mistaking it. That's an oni, the strongest enemy of humanity in Gensokyo!

An oni?!

Impossible! There shouldn't be any oni left in Gensokyo!

Yeah, they left Youkai Mountain, although nobody knows where they went...
...I never thought I'd see you again, Suika.

Ooh, you're that speedy person, Aya, huh. How've you been?

I'm honored that you remember me.

So why's a big-shot youkai like you gathering all these youkai?

Because it's fun, duh.
Lots of booze, over-the-top danmaku. I love a big ruckus, but it didn't look like it was gonna get any bigger.

You're kind of a jerk, huh.
Whatever you are, if you're the culprit, I'll defeat you!

Good! It'd be boring otherwise.
Let's see if you're worthy of taking me on!

Victory Conditions
Suika defeated.

Defeat Conditions
All allies defeated.

Bonus Condition
After spell card activation, deal 16,000 damage to Suika in one turn.

The last couple mooks are wiped out in a flash, so let's get started on Suika!

Suika has a BIT of evasion, but anyone with decent accuracy can hit her most, if not all of the time.

Getting hit is distinctly unideal, though, particularly in melee. That was over 3,000 damage, and she isn't even using a spell card!

Want to get her nice and low this turn, without finishing her off... I want to take her down in one shot next turn, to maximize my chances of pulling off that 16,000 damage.

SPELL BREAK

Aw, come on. When are you gonna get serious?

Th-This is the power of an oni... she isn't taking us seriously at all!

Of course, she's the ultimate kidnapper.
You can't take her down using normal means, although there were specialists back in the day...

Those methods are all lost now. How can we oppose her...

Starting to feel kinda like I wasted my time coming here. Is this really all you've got?
I'll have to gather more youkai, and have a hundred-demon night parade every night!

Gh, the oni are returning to threaten humanity once more...!

There's nothing special about her, really, she's just a powerful youkai.

Hee, you're pretty gutsy for someone facing an oni.

Youkai extermination is my job, so there's no way I can't defeat you!

Ahahahha! So there are still humans interested in a fair fight.
Very well then, the missing power of the oni, the power of foregathering - let it permeate every inch of your body!

Oni Sign "Missing Power"

This suspiciously-shaped spellcard changes Suikas size to LL, the largest of anything in the game! When attacking people bigger than you, you get damage penalties. However, when attacking people smaller than you, you get accuracy penalties, so maybe it balances out?

(It doesn't balance out.)

13360 damage to go!

HUEG

Wall! Next attack does 10 damage.

10,483!

7047!

4136!

OOPS

JUST KIDDING She's fine. Special skill: Ressurection!

3128!

529!

And objective met.

When I'm outside of her range, she can stil attack by throwing her sake gourd!

WHEW

This damage output is seriously over the top.

And oni defeated!

Not bad, not bad! What a fun battle.

Not even I can turn huge like that...

What will she do next? Split into multiple smaller oni, or maybe get even larger...

Mmmm, both sound fun... but I think I'm done for today.

What's this, done already? I haven't even joined in.

Well like, I see some reeeeally good sake behind you.
If I keep fighting, someone else might drink all of it!

So you had your eye on our sake from the beginning? Oni really are scoundrels.

Oni and sake do naturally go together, after all.

All right, humans! Next up is a drinking contest!

Stage Clear

Turns taken: 8
Spirit Commands used: 10
Bombs used: 1
Battle Mastery achieved

And after the battle, Suika just joins in on the party in progress! Apparently Aya used to work for her, way back in the day.

Suika assures that she isn't here to take back Youkai Mountain - she just wants to have some fun with humans and youkai.

And of course THESE two know each other.

Akyu recognizes Yukari as the sage of youkai, with a power that can even oppose the gods, the power to control the boundaries between objects.

But for now, everyone is drinking partners, having fun together at the Hakurei Shrine. Cheers!

Much later, a party of drunken partygoers are on their way home. They actually drank the whole barrel, although most of that was Aya and Suika.

Elly's surprised at how friendly that oni was! Apparently they're more than just dangerous youkai, as Akyu explains.

Apparently she's writing a youkai encyclopedia. Patchouli is interested in it, almost enough to get out of the mansion for a change.

Daiyousei is curious as to why youkai that powerful vanished from the world. According to Mokou, it was the work of humans.

After Mokou and Keine leave, Komachi puts her finger on what bothers her about Mokou - she can see the lifespans of all humans, but Mokou doesn't seem to have one. She isn't quite sure what this means...

After the party! Reimu's cleaning up, and Sanae's recovered enough to help.

She's still worried about her actions from the last few days, and still surprised that Reimu doesn't seem to care, at all.

But alas, it is time for the gods to go home. Kanako and Suwako both express their appreciation to Reimu for teaching them about life in Gensokyo, however roughly.

Yukari's on her way, too, making some comments about preparations for the coming winter. Apparently she plans to sleep through the whole season.

We'll meet again, next spring...

To be continued!
