Let's Play Umineko, Episode 2 Scene 12: The Stakes

<< | ^^ | >>

Ushiromiya Krauss

His corpse was found in the chapel. The direct cause of death is unknown, but it seems his stomach was cut open and his intestines pulled out after death. On top of that, sweets and candies were packed into his stomach.

Welcome Maria. Happy Halloween.

Ushiromiya Natsuhi

The same.

Didn't I tell you that her stomach would be filled with candy?

Ushiromiya Eva

The same.

All stomachs are filled with sweet dreams.

Ushiromiya Hideyoshi

The same.

What's so filthy about the inside of a stomach?

Ushiromiya Rudolf

The same.

This is why we want to be as sweet and innocent as candy.

Ushiromiya Kyrie

The same.

And so, I give you the land of dreams. Happy Halloween.

Beatrice is fine with Kanon claiming to have no feelings for Jessica. She'll kill Jessica anyway, though.

Why?

The ceremony has no rule saying that Beatrice can't kill extra people if she feels like it.

BGM: Life's End

The witch is gone.

Kanon rushes into Jessica's room, only to find a bizarre scene.

Countless golden butterflies flit around the room.

Kanon swears that, so long as he lives, nobody will lay a finger on Jessica.

He shouts out a challenge to Beatrice, and the empty air laughs back.

Beatrice returns. The two truly are close, so it's time to tear them apart.

The princess, the knight, and the witch are all gathered. Just one more cast member is missing.

The monster.

The figure that appears from the mist at Beatrice's command is like a man with a goat's head.

Jessica doesn't yet understand that this world has been cut off from the world of common sense, but she understands at least that the goat means to kill them both.

To any human opponent, fighting this monster would mean certain death.

But the goat's opponent isn't human at all.

Kanon is furniture.

He knows that he could no more kill Beatrice than he could break the moon by throwing a rock skyward.

However, a rock thrown at the moon's reflection can disturb it for a while.

The duel begins.

Beatrice is impressed by the strength of Kanon's Locus.

Another dozen blows pass in an instant, and the goat draws first blood. A scratch on Kanon's cheek.

The battle resumes, but not for long.

The goat's Locus cuts through... empty space?

Without even giving it a chance to register that it's happening, Kanon executes the goat. It dissolves into butterflies before it can hit the ground.

Kanon wins.

Kanon, don't forget! You're baring your fangs at the moon!

Beatrice dissolves, and reforms on the other side of the room.

She was going to be lenient, but Kanon's rudeness has changed her mind.

Jessica's paralysis breaks, and she comes to Kanon's defense.

Jessica says, to hell with the whole idea. Kanon isn't furniture. Shannon isn't furniture. Nobody is furniture.

Kanon chose to stand in Beatrice's path. He chose as a human.

Beatrice only laughs.

Kinzo isn't the only one who has furniture.

Asmodeus of Lust
Furniture of the Golden Witch
Seventh of the Stakes of Purgatory

Kanon understands immediately how much the situation has changed. The goat had been a pawn to cast aside. This is the witch's true furniture.

Asmodeus vanishes. There is the sound of clattering metal.

The target was Kanon's back... but Jessica predicted it.

Asmodeus transformed herself into a demon's stake, which embedded itself in Jessica's back. The wound pierces through to her lungs.

Beatrice cackles one more.

She predicted it. Everything has happened exactly as Beatrice predicted.

But we're not done here, are we?

The second twilight demands two sacrifices.

Satan of Wrath
Furniture of the Golden Witch
Third of the Stakes of Purgatory

These Stakes are some classy characters.

The second battle is over even faster than the first. No, not a battle. This is a chess game.

When you capture a piece in chess, it doesn't get to defend itself.

Kanon apologizes for not protecting her.

Jessica praises him for being cool to the end.

Jessica asks him what his real name was.

She will never know.

Kanon and Jessica die as humans.

To Beatrice, leaving behind a corpse is too much dignity for Kanon. With a wave of her pipe, his body disappears into thin air.
