Let's Play Umineko Chiru, Episode 8 Scene 5: The Princess
<< | ^^ | >>

In the guest house, Battler strategically loses so that he can win when it counts.

There's a knock on the door.

Maria can scarcely contain her excitement at the prospect of dinner.

What waits at the party? No way to find out other than to go and see.

Eva seems to have taken a bit of a liking to her youngest niece. The two of them share an umbrella for the trip through the rain to the mansion.

BGM: Far

Beatrice is certainly dressed for the occasion.

Alas, but Kinzo is demanding Beatrice's attention once again. She'd better go play along.

This is a special day for the Ushiromiya family, but for Ange, it can just be a day of relaxation and fun.

Genji calls for silence.

To seal the ceremony, Kinzo formally hands a single ingot of gold back to Beatrice.
After some initial banter, she turns serious.

Genji calls for all those who agree to show their recognition with applause. The sound fills the hall.

This is the end of Kinzo's support. From now on, he shall simply watch over them from afar as they live however they please.

With the inheritance neatly divided, there is no need to quarrel over anything.

Kinzo's only regret is that he didn't do this from the beginning.

The siblings formally swear to support Krauss, the new head, and lead the family to prosperity.

What's going on?
Aren't the siblings supposed to be bitterly fighting tonight?

Despite refusing to believe, Ange feels tears of happiness in the corner of her eyes.

She'll only believe when he says it in red.

In the world of humans, there is no red truth. You can either accept something, or you can't.

Nobody can force Ange to decide. It's up to her.

A long, fun evening unfolds on the game board.

The other members of the family start sharing what magic tricks they know. The Halloween party becomes a party of magic.

Just a little should be fine, right?
Battler warns that if you drink bad drinks as a kid, you'll grow up to become a bad adult. Like Rudolf!

The night is so fun that Ange can almost believe that this whole party is being held in her honor.

May that smile some day belong to the real Ange, not just the piece.

This game is repentance for the sins of Beatrice's and Battler's game.
The time to use that key will come. Only Ange can decide what to do with it then.

Everyone has played their parts faithfully in the past games. Why not let them enjoy themselves in the end?

Gohda presents a chocolate cake, emblazoned with the crest of the One-Winged Eagle.

Ange had heard about this secret earlier from Eva.
The king, whoever it may be, may declare a wish, and all the others will do whatever is in their power to grant it.

Each person chooses a slice, from youngest to oldest. So, Ange goes first.

Ange stares at the slices of cake. She's only interested in the one with the almond in it.

If you go first, you have to pick from so many slices. Doesn't that mean it's harder?

Something about this math doesn't quite seem right.

Which one will it be?

Hmm... How about this one?

Maria picks next. Ange resists the temptation to check her piece now.

So it's best to wait for other people to check first!
Wait, no, what if someone else wins? Then her odds drop to zero.

Hang on, isn't this strange?

What's wrong with her theory? How can there be a strategy to win if the almond is already there?

Someone else's thoughts drift through Ange's head. Must be the grown-up juice from earlier.

Ultimately, she decides to stop worrying about the math and just go with her original plan.

Maria, George and Jessica report their defeat.

No winning slice for Hideyoshi or Eva, either.

Ange still hasn't checked her own slice.

Hey, what's this?

Wait, what?

There are two slices with almond.

Gohda isn't sure how to explain the technical difficulties.

They shall both be the winner!
Gohda objects weakly - he prepared a special dessert for the winner, and it doesn't split easily.

Eva offers to be Ange's attendant, instead. This way everyone is happy.

Ange already chose her wish, too.

Ange's wish: To continue the tricks and riddles from before!

Each of them will prepare a unique riddle for Ange to try and solve. For each success, Kinzo will award Ange with a medal!

Everyone starts thinking about what kind of puzzles to share with Ange.
Tonight exists only for her.
