Let's Play Umineko Chiru, Episode 8 Scene 19: The Sea of Goats

<< | ^^ | >>

EVA-Beatrice

The witch who returned alive from the Legend of the Witch Serial Murders and inherited the name of Beatrice.

She uses the Eva Culprit Theory to refute all other theories regarding the cat box that exist. At the same time, she can use the Eva Culprit Theory to create endless tragedies with herself as the culprit.

Perhaps she could also be called the lid separating the inside and the outside of the cat box. Of course, she knows what's inside the cat box.

BGM: Bizarre Divertimento

The goats continue to multiply, covering and devouring Battler's game.

The truth the future desires is overwriting the past.

Enough of that. Gaap takes Battler and Beatrice to the study.

A defensive battle would only delay the inevitable.

Is there anywhere else they can go?

The only ones capable of travelling between Fragments are Bernkastel and Lambdadelta. One of them already said she was content to remain an observer, and the other is clearly their enemy.

But there's still one place they can run to.

The Golden Land is the safest place on the game board. It's the only remaining option.

Beatrice can open the way, but the immense anti-magic toxin from the goats will make it a slow process.

There's only one pair who can be trusted with this duty.

Beatrice waves her pipe, and the faintest crack of a doorway opens to the Golden Land.

Battler starts laying out the plan. Gaap and Kinzo will be the inner line of defense.

Outside, the others fight on against the endless horde.

The Siestas and the Stakes continue to mow down goats in droves.

However, while they could probably take on an army, an ocean is another matter.

The sea recedes slightly, the goats hesitating.

The Stakes rush in, striking at all the vital organs of the closest goat.

The goats are talking.

The ones denying the Stakes are blasted apart by the Siestas, but other goats are left unharmed by their attack, too.

Against those who don't accept the existence of magic, magic won't have any effect.

Even Virgilia's spear has no effect against the enemy army.

The wall of goats surges forward.

Even without magic, Ronove won't sit back and let his mistress die.

Ronove can't do any damage to the goats at all. All he can do is act as a shield for a few moments.

The great demon continues to struggle and fight back for as long as possible, but this is the end.

A dozen goat arms are severed in an instant.

Will steps in behind Dlanor, sword drawn.

BGM: Tomorrow

Mystery isn't a line of defense. It's an offensive. The goats are the ones who have to defend now.

Until they can answer every riddle of the game, there's nothing they can do.

Knox's ten and Van Dine's twenty cut down theory after half-baked theory.

Some goats push back with an argument that Knox and Van Dine are behind the times. They're opposing the laws of the genre itself.

Over her long game, Beatrice left many blades behind for Dlanor and Will to use.

The ocean rises, but crashes against the rocks.

If there wasn't a battle going on, Dlanor and Will could have a nice chat about the differences between Knox and Van Dine's rules, but they're a little busy.

Neither set of rules is able to harm the next goat. Does he have a theory that satisfies all thirty rules?

The goat picks Will up, and starts to crush the life out of him.

Excuse me?

You refuse to think, and dare call yourself a mystery fan?

No matter how many rules change or are discarded, one single element of the mystery genre never changes.

The goats press on regardless. This isn't a mystery, so who cares? Thinking is a waste of time.

Stop thinking, and you've given up on the story being a mystery.

That means you have to accept it as a fantasy.

Battler's game isn't going to end that easily.

The Game Master raises his golden sword.

A single slash cuts down over a hundred goats.

The forces of mystery and fantasy can fight this battle. Not one of them will fall.

The game Battler made for Ange will hold out for as long as it takes.

Even if the board is destroyed, the game will endure. All you need for a game is two people.

Speaking of which, where's the other player?

The goats aren't attacking the chapel.

Ange must be waiting within.
