Chapter 3: Dwarftown

Killing the mimic in Waldenbrook!

...
Ooh.

The only things I really have to safely sell at this point are FOUR wands of monster creation. Oh, and a potion of invisibility, since I know the spell.

All money not spent on sexy new armor is spent on RELIGION!

Other fun fact: If you're in good standing with your god, you can drop items on the altar to determine their B/U/C status.
Time to use some of my new holy water to bless this girdle, bringing my max unburdened carrying capacity up from 1838s to 2438s!

Now, for the quests to begin!

Ghul! Undead are pretty common.
In fact, I have a way to guarantee a generation of one with a bit of metagaming.

"Aye, we closed the deeper levels of the dungeons to prevent foolish adventurers from uncovering even greater evils. The portal seems not to be able to lock the forces of Chaos away, but at least it prevents the foolish from wreaking havoc.
Do you want to venture beyond this portal?"
[Y]
"First ye need to proveyer worth in a quest.
A vile necromancer has defiled the grave of one of our bravest heroes. The graveyard is located in the southeastern part of the Drakalor Chain. Find it and kill the evil sorceror. Purify his grave and ye will be rewarded.
Take these items to help you in your quest."

The only item of note here is the potion of water - it's holy water.
This is a quest that's a bit too advanced for my level, but I don't intend to do the whole thing now - just exploit it for personal gain.

To the surface!

SHIT.
Weapon rusted. Fire Bolt spellbook destroyed. Various scrolls gone.
Fortunately, my weapon is nothing special. Easily replaced. Also, not dead yet.

And out! Now to journey.

Again, uninterrupted. I have yet to see a wilderness encounter with this character.

Immediately I am beset by the undead in swarms!

Level 11!

MISSION COMPLETE
Let's head back.

And my first wilderness encounter!
LET'S BEAT UP DOGS

Done.
And delicious.

And back!

l
Karmic lizard
Threat Level: 5/10
Special: Karmic touch
Corpse: Lucky
Karmic beings, identifiable by their ever-changing color, are very dangerous. Touching one in melee combat can curse or even doom the PC.
Best to avoid touching them, and slaughter them with magic or ranged weapons.

Aaand my sword broke.
Better rely on magic until I find a new one!

There's one for sale here, although it's not as good as my old one...
Oh well, it'll do.

And here we see the true nature of the strange item!
When I picked it up, there was one, but now I have seven. The bizarre thing multiplies in my backpack.
Okay, talking to Thrundarr now!

Free full identify!
Let's check this shit out.

Amulets of light! Amulet of perseverance. I'll equip that one.

A bunch of resistance rings! No fire, though, that's the one I really want.

Wands! Most of them redundant with my spells, but oh well.
One very important potion, I'll get back to it.

Some useless scrolls!

Okay, let's take a look at my HERRRBS
Devil's Rose: causes sickness. Do not eat.
Demon Daisy: causes poison. Do not eat.
Alraunia Antidote: Cures poison. I have poison resistance.
Spenseweed: Use as a tool to heal HP. Handy.
Curaria Mancox: Cures sickness. I know Cure Disease.
Pepper Petal: Eat to restore HP. Handy.
Moss of Marelion and Morgia Root were covered in the last run. Gonna wipe out most of these now.

Religion!
Okay, enough dallying. MORE QUEST.

"Find da animated forest.
Cross it and find out about what is beyond.
Crossing da forest directly is perilous and tedious. Try it only if your will is strong enough to bear da stress.
Ye might wanna try da shortcut for da forest. It's a tiny stairway, which once led into some of our halls.
These days it was conquered by evil beasts of great power. Nobody ever returned from that forlorn place.
It's yer choice.
Return to me when ye have succeeded."

Other stuff in Dwarftown!
There's Garth, who will trade gold for training in various stats.

Torgall trades purchased ales for useless rumors!
Bart, the grizzled gladiator, is relevant to a future quest.

A smithy I'll never be using.

The demented ratling is relevant to some late game quests for chaotics only! I can ignore him.
And that's... mostly it.

Next: Beyond Dwarftown!
