Let's Play Battle Moon Wars
But wait! Just what is Battle Moon Wars? I hear you cry.

Battle Moon Wars is a Type Moon fangame in the style of Super Robot Wars, much like Super Touhou Wars was for Touhou Project. It contains characters from Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, Fate/Zero, Kara no Kyoukai, and a few more side works, and I am going to LP the hell out of it. Starting now!
As an advance warning, this game takes place after both Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, so there will be spoilers for both. If you don't know Fate/Stay Night, I recommend reading my past LP of it to familiarize yourself with the scenario - the canon route is Heaven's Feel. If you don't know Tsukihime, I don't really recommend picking up on it at all, but if you feel the need, there's an excellent - if borderline NSFW - LP of it over here. Be advised, though, that it's over 150 chapters long - I'll be summarizing the important bits of background as characters are introduced here.

Let's begin!
The game kicks off with a choice between two main characters. This will determine the route through the rest of the game.

Takumi Atsusa
Battle Moon Wars
Species: Youkai
Background: ???
I'm not picking this guy!
I'm picking this person instead:

Haruna Mochizuki
Battle Moon Wars
Species: Youkai
Background: ???
The reason I'm picking Haruna here is that her route tends to stick more closely to the Fate characters than the Tsukihime characters - and most of my audience is more familiar with Fate.
LET'S GO

Shin'i is the organization that our two original protagonists work for! Very little is ever explained about it, least of all why Takumi and Haruna's immediate superior is a talking cat named Mike.
Misaki is the city where Tsukihime took place, and where Battle Moon Wars is going to take place as well. During the events of Tsukihime, a number of powerful and dangerous forces collided there, causing a great deal of supernatural upheaval and stagnation.

In the months following the event, the stagnation has started to spread, as suggested by a chain of unexplained murders. And that's not all...

Misaki City is becoming hallowed ground! Whatever that means.
The local guardian is unable to contain the situation, and has sent a distress call to Shin'i.

Haruna and Takumi are being sent in to investigate! Our goal: Figure out why the stagnation is still spreading, and put an end to it.
Off we go!

One off-screen travel montage later, we're in Misaki!
The situation is worse than we thought. The air is LOUSY with nasty magic.

And with stagnation comes evil spirits!
BATTLE TIME

Chapter 1: To The Dark Alley

There's some here that I haven't seen before.
Don't get careless, Haruna!

Understood!

Objectives are simple! There are five enemies, and we need to kill them all without all dying ourselves.
Battle Masteries are special bonus conditions that control the difficulty of the game - if you're getting most of them, then it means you aren't having much trouble with the game, so the difficulty will increase to compensate. You may also get special bonus content if you have a lot of them!
Today's Battle Mastery condition is to clear the map in four turns. I'll be getting these when I can and ignoring them when shit gets real.

This is a plot-light tutorial mission to kick things off!
On later missions, this would be the time to select which characters we're sending on the map. Since we only have two characters, though, everyone gets to come along.

And the battle begins!
Flow is much like Super Robot Wars. I select a character, who can move, attack, or use spirits. No attacks are available at this range, so move!

Once I'm in range, I can pick an attack!
Takumi has two attacks - the second one is unavailable right now, so my choice is simple. The red tiles are the range of the attack. Target: Vorpal Bunny!

This is the pre-battle preparation screen! The numbers below the portraits are the chance for that character's attack to hit. The bunny isn't even retaliating, so this looks quite favorable!
LET'S GO

Takumi's fighting style involves a sword that's bigger than he is, and not a lot of complexity. He can't hit at very good range, but he hits hard - this is him taking out the first enemy in one hit.

Also available to every character is a selection of Spirits! These don't take up your turn, but cost SP - they are crucial for surviving intense battles.
Available to Haruna right now are two Spirits - Focus, described above, and Luck, which doubles the BP (money, basically) earned in the next attack.

For now, she can't do much of anything, so end of turn. But she can counterattack when the enemies move in to attack!

While she lack's Takumi's ridiculous damage output, Haruna makes up for it with higher range and accuracy.
And yes, that's a wooden mannequin of Getter-1. Type Moon games don't have many mooks, so most of these are made up.

Her other aptitude is evasion! Haruna easily avoids the doll's counterattack.
Later on, attacks actually hitting Haruna will be an event of freakish abnormality.

Takumi doesn't share Haruna's crazy evasion, but what he has instead: Defense!
This Vorpal Rabbit's attack does less than 500 damage.

And so this map continues, with Haruna and Takumi tearing a storm through the enemy forces.

This is Takumi's primary Spirit! Strike sets your accuracy at 200% for the rest of the turn.
Yes, 200%. Characters can use the Evade command, which reduces the enemy's accuracy by half - so with this, it will still be 100% even after that.

If I don't feel like watching the full battle animation every time, I can use this condensed view!

Not all attacks are at full accuracy at all ranges!
This is the attack range for Haruna's basic attack - see those yellow squares? She CAN hit there, but damage is severely reduced. It's best for her to keep her distance.

And down! That just leaves the 'boss'.

The crow fails about as hard as everything else has to injure Haruna. Time for her second attack!
PUPPET WASP, GO

And down in one.

MAP CLEAR
Battle Mastery achieved!

These were small fry, but the presence of unknown types of evil spirits is bad news. We're going to need to cover more ground!
Takumi's going to investigate deeper into the stagnation, and Haruna's going to contact the head of the Tohno family.

And so our two routes split!

INTERMISSION SCREEN
Right now, I only have one character in my party!
Let's take a look.

As discussed, Haruna is a flighty evasion-based attacker!
Her basic skills increase her Hit/Evd/Attack power, and give her a chance to strike first even when being attacked. Her special skills mean that when she's at 130 Will (each battle starts at 100), she can ignore height differences and has a 30% chance to evade any attack at the cost of 5 EN.

And these are her two attacks! The P means that both can be used after movement, not sure about T. "All" range is everywhere where the attack can hit, and "Core" range is where it can hit at full damage.

This is what I can do with Battle Points! Upgrades.
Gonna upgrade Haruna's evasion and call it a night. Next time, we'll get into the actual non-original characters!
