Let's Play Super Touhou Wars 2

<< | ^^ | >>

Keine has two special skills - Teacher, which gives a 15% EXP bonus to anyone in the 8 squares surrounding her, or Charge, which increases her focused move speed by 1. I'll be always using the latter.

Entire party is Reimu and Keine. Let's go ally hunting!

Reimu thinks that the two of them are lost! That's because this is her first time in thet Bamboo Forest of the Lost.

Keine says that the person they're looking for is named Fujiwara no Mokou, the only human living in this forest.

This person doesn't get along well with others, so it might be a lost cause, but Keine thinks she might be looking for a change after living alone for so long...

Elsewhere in the forest, some other people aren't so fortunate as to have a guide!

Daiyousei
Species: Fairy
Rank: I
Kindness: A
Usefulness: A
Dangerousness: D

Daiyousei is looking for Cirno! She is not having any luck.

Rumia
Youkai of the Dusk
Species: Youkai
Rank: I
Kindness: C
Intelligence: D
Hunger: A

And with her is our old weird tag-alonger, Rumia! She's hungry, which is no surprise.

And so the two groups intersect! Rumia is helping Daiyousei find Cirno! Apparently she wandered off in search of allies and hasn't come back. Possibly getting lost in the process.

Keine explains the situation, and Rumia and Daiyousei suggest continuing together. Reimu's worried that this might make someone who's not fond of other people even more reluctant to help them...

At a simple house deep within the forest of the lost, there is a knock on the door!

Fujiwara no Mokou
The Crimson Watchguard
Species: Human
Rank: EX
Extroversion: D
Patience: S
Resilience: S

Mokou is, of course, immediately suspicious of all the other people suddenly showing up at her doorstep.

Rumia's first reaction to seein a human out here is to wonder if it's OK to eat her. Mokou interprets this as a sign that Rumia is a dangerous youkai, and demands that she stay away from Keine.

Eventually, the situation calms down enough for us to explain the situation. Her response?

No.

She thinks that it doesn't have anything to do with her. And really, it doesn't have anything to do with Keine, either. Why not leave this one to the Hakurei girl?

Keine tries to argue further, but Reimu pretty quickly accepts this as a lost cause, and heads back...

Chapter 18 (Reimu Route): Don't Lay a Hand On Her

I'm sorry, Reimu. I'm sure Mokou didn't mean wrong by it.

I know. I'm not saying you were wrong or anything.
I'm just a bit mad that I don't have enough faith, so I have to surrender to some other shrine.

That's why were gathering allies now. It's not like you to give up.

Reimu isn't her usual self right now, is she...

Yup! This could be my chance for revenge!

No! This is a time to be gentle.

Is that so~? Then I could suddenly turn the tables on her!
Huh?

What?

Someone's flying in from over there.

Tengu A
Non-canonical Underling of the Mountain
Species: Crow Tengu
Rank: II
Speed: A
Integrity: C
Importance: D

The shrine maiden's come out. All right, I'm taking my chance!

Kyah?!

Hey, what do you think you're doing?

A crow tengu? We already withdrew, so what on earth are you doing here?!

Whether you withdrew or not, our orders are to keep you under watch!

That's right. If we keep watching you, we're sure to find a top class scoop!

Scoop? Are you talking about us?

What an obnoxious lot. Get out of here!

I'll also be taking a shot of that angry face!

Wh-Why you...!

Reimu, don't rise to their provocations.

I guess we should answer back with our usual danmaku battle, huh?

Oh, they're getting into it. I think you overdid it.

Who cares? If we turn the tables on them, we can add it to our article.
"Escaped Shrine Maiden Taken Down by Humble Magazine Reporters!" We'll make front page for sure!

Try it if you think you can!

Victory Conditions
Tengu A defeated.

Defeat Conditions
Keine defeated.

Bonus Condition
Defeat all other enemies before defeating Tengu A.

Enemy force: Three fairies, four crows, and two tengu. Piece of cake!

Anyway, let's get to the battling!

Rumia has the Defensive Support skill, allowing her to take hits in Daiyousei's place as long as they're standing next to each other. Only one per turn, though.

Daiyousei has the skill, too, so they can both do that. This is handy, because the supporter only takes half damage!

What's going on out there?
...Those are tengu! Are they after Keine and her friends?
...
...Oh well, it's got nothing to do with me. They can sort it out for themselves.

Rumia is a shortish-range tank, although not as tanky as Keine. She needs some upgrades to really be useful.

She's got a new attack, which we may see before this battle is over!

Daiyousei's greatest power is her healing! That number there isn't quite done appearing; she usually heals for about 1000-2000 HP.

Is this it? Honestly, I was expecting more from you.

Tch, it looks like we can't take those tengu lightly...

There's just nothing impressive here. This won't even make for a good article.

Hey, what about that house back there?
Those humans came out of it, so somebody must be inside.

...! They're after Mokou's house!

Might as well! I hadn't heard that anyone lived out here.
Now... let's take some pictures!

...That tengu is coming this way!

I won't let you!

This house has nothing to do with us. Leave it out of this!

You sound suspiciously like you're trying to get in the way of my scoop!

Ngh!

Keine's trying to stop the tengu by herself!

Keine, that's not an opponent you can take on alone!
One second, I'll come and...

Hold it right there!

!

Where did they all come from? I didn't hear anything!

As if I'd tell you. I won't let you interfere!

Our quick thinking paid off! Now, let's do it!

Yeah!

Guah!

Keine!

Keine, please run away! If you keep this up...

No, I won't back down, not here! Whatever happens to me, that human...
...I won't let any harm befall her!

...
...You worry about people too much, Keine.
After all those things I said, trying to protect me...
You...!

Very well! And now, the finishing blow!

Wait!

[ BGM - Eternally Burning Heart ~ Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke ]

Don't lay a hand on her!

S-Such power...!

N-Not bad! Who the hell are you?

A health nut who runs a yakitori stand.

Huh?

Thanks for keeping them busy, Keine. Now it's my turn.

Mokou, why did you come out? Those two will do anything to get their article...

Let them. If they want a fight, I'm offering one.
You hurt Keine in front of me. I'll make you regret it!

Wasn't she saying that about you?

Hmph, she's a lively one. But choosing your opponents wisely is the trick to a long life!

Sorry, but I don't need any such trick.

Huh?

You heard me, Hakurei shrine maiden. I'm going along with Keine for now, so you can join us if you want.

Is that a joke? Of course I'm coming!

Me too. If you're doing this for my sake, you're not doing it alone.

I understand. Don't overdo it, Keine.

All right, our counterattack begins here!

New character!

Tengu A restored her health, though, sadly.

All right, Rumia, it's time for you to show off!

If I can make it even darker...

Nom!

Not bad, not bad. It doesn't cost any EN, and can be used seven times!

What's your problem, getting in the way of my investigation?!

In your way, am I? Then bring it on.

Mokou is a powerful short-range agile character with health regeneration. I'll be making quite a lot of use of her - for now, she's taking on Tengu A while the rest of my party cleans out the riffraff.

Or so I planned, but...

Fairies aren't anything newsworthy, but I can probably make something out of it.
"Teary-eyed fairy, forced into battle against her will by cruel shrine maiden!" How's that?!

I... I'm not gonna cry!

The tengu attack with blazingly-fast wind shockwaves. Daiyousei's in danger!

Fortunately, Keine and Daiyousei both have the spirit command Trust, which restores 2000 HP to any ally.

Yes, the animation for it uses Daiyousei no matter who's doing it. Even if you're using it on Daiyousei.

Now to wipe out the secondary tengu with Keine's ultimate technique!

Let's see you clench those teeth!

Accept...

...your punishment!

Now go stand out in the hallway!

Daiyousei makes herself useful by bombing a hole in the danmaku field!

Hold on, this is insane! Are you really human?!

This isn't like the wings you crows have.
I'll show you the wings of a phoenix!

Can you withstand this? The beating wings of the fire god!

Goooooo!

Flying Phoeniiiiiix!

Apparently, she can't!

O-Ow... wait, my camera broke!
This is all your fault! The film is ruined! I've lost my scoop!

Camera? Film? Huh?
Use words I understand, or go home.

Damn it! You'd better remember me!

Looks like we scared 'em off.

You're pretty good at this. I'll thank you, just this once.

No need. I wasn't helping you.

Mokou, I'm sorry for getting you wrapped up in our battle...

Don't worry about it. Why don't we go inside?

Stage Clear

Turns taken: 6
Spirit Commands used: 7
Bombs used: 1
Battle Mastery achieved

Back at Mokou's house! Keine is impressed that Mokou bothers keeping medicine around - she never needs to use it for herself.

But still, to think that those were just petty underlings... Youkai Mountain is a scary place. Daiyousei now understands why Cirno's off looking for more allies.

Daiyousei wants to come with us to Youkai Mountain! Reimu isn't sure that fairies would be able to stand up to tengu, but Keine points out that she was with us during the summer incident.

After hearing the whole story from Keine, Mokou decides that she'll come along after all. For her sake, not for Reimu.

This time, Daiyousei's the one to be worried, since Reimu and Mokou don't seem to be getting along well at all. Still, nothing to be done for it. Time to head back to the shrine...

To be continued!
