Some kind of private Bleach RP
Notable Differences from Bleach Canon
-The year is 2012 AD.
-Countries other than Japan actually exist.
-Not all Zanpakuto are swords. Their base forms can be any sort of handheld weapon (although guns are extremely rare, and modern guns are right out).
-Every character who is given a name in Bleach canon does not exist in this universe.
-Visored and all the conspiracy surrounding them may exist, but they will not be the focus of the RP.
Soul Society
The afterlife. When a human dies, their soul goes to Soul Society and is reborn as a spirit there. When that spirit dies, it reincarnates back in the material world as a human. Soul Society is enormous, and ruled over by the enigmatic Spirit King from Seireitei.
Rukon District
The provinces surrounding Seireitei. Ordinary people live their peaceful afterlives here. Beyond Rukon district there are other districts, but our adventures won’t be concerned with them.
Seireitei
A massive fortress/city at the heart of Soul Society. It is home to a number of aristocrat families, along with the 13 Court Guard Divisions and their facilities. Seireitei is governed by a group of politicians called Central 46, who act in the name of the Spirit King, and whose orders are carried out by the Guard Divisions.
The 13 Court Guard Divisions
Our heroes are here. The military arm of Soul Society, thirteen divisions of elite soul reaper warriors. These warriors enforce peace in Soul Society and also fight Hollows in the material plane, among other duties.
The majority of each division is unseated officers, the standard mobs of soldiers. Above them are Officer Seats 11-20, which can each be held by a number of officers at once. 10th Seat through 3rd Seat are each held by a single soul reaper, generally ascending in skill, experience and power as one approaches 3rd. Above 3rd seat is the Division Lieutenant, then the Captain. The thirteen Captains are the most powerful fighting forces in all of Soul Society, and their particular fighting abilities are kept secret to all but their closest allies.
1st Division is the highest-ranking division of the Court Guard. They form its central leadership, and primarily act as protection for various Soul Society officials.
1st Division Captain: Nobuko Takatsukasa
The founder and leader of the Court Guard, an ancient and wise woman who rules firmly and proudly. Whenever a new captain is promoted, Takatsukasa faces them in a duel in order to ascertain their integrity. If rumors are to be believed, she has defeated every one of them without ever drawing her Zanpakuto. In fact, it’s unclear if she even has one at all.
1st Division Lieutenant: Bai Zhao
A soft-spoken, polite and elegant woman who serves as the faithful right hand of her captain. In battle, though, she becomes delirious with rage, fighting with a constant-release type Zanpakuto that takes the form of an enormous ball and chain.
2nd Division is the Court Guard’s special operations unit. They handle a wide variety of covert missions.
2nd Division Captain: Hideo Hatano
Few have even seen Hideo’s face. A captain about whom almost nothing is known by the common officers.
2nd Division Lieutenant: Kazuo Abe
A fierce and overly serious ninja. His Zanpakuto gives him the ability to launch attacks in and out of people’s shadows.
3rd Division is the Court Guard’s primary go-between with Central 46, and also the division responsible for protecting them. When new orders come in, it is 3rd Division that conveys them to Seireitei.
3rd Division Captain: Ezequiel Mendez
Nicknamed Ezequiel The Dragon, a boisterous and overbearing tower of a man. The reason for his nickname is not common knowledge.
3rd Division Lieutenant: Gerhold Brandt
A low, hot flame to balance Mendez’s white-hot inferno. His Zanpakuto is a massive claymore that, when released, can launch huge fireballs.
4th Division is the Court Guard’s medical division. They are often belittled for their low fighting power, but they are in some ways the backbone of the fighting force.
4th Division Captain: Nikostratos Herod
An old doctor who oversees the medical brigade with an iron fist. He is rumored to be feared even by the other captains.
4th Division Lieutenant: Hania
A somber man covered in tattoos. A defensive specialist, his Zanpakuto can create impenetrable walls of light.
5th Division specializes in Kido, the magical arts used by soul reapers. Their sword skills tend not to stand up to other divisions, they are still a force to be reckoned with.
5th Division Captain: Zola
A former Zulu warrior and the tallest of all captains. She has never been conclusively shown to possess a sense of humor.
5th Division Lieutenant: Hoang La
An oft-called obnoxious fellow who more than makes up for his humorless captain with his tendency to laugh at great length at even the stupidest jokes. His Zanpakuto can take a single Kido and refract it into several spells at once.
6th Division specializes in strict discipline and diehard adherence to the rules of Seireitei. Its officers are expected to excel in all areas.
6th Division Captain: Alexandr Zizka
An old knight, fiercely chivalrous and with no mercy for dishonorable behavior. He fights with a sword and shield, and expects nothing less than greatness of his officers. He is said to have the greatest offensive power of any Zanpakuto ever known.
6th Division Lieutenant: Saori Kobayashi
A beautiful woman who devotes her life to the bushido code. Her Zanpakuto can create a closed space for herself and an opponent, which cannot be interfered with until one of them yields.
7th Division is the recon force. Their agents are constantly on the field in the material plane, and report back by Hell Butterfly at the first sign of any serious Hollow incursion.
7th Divison Captain: Faustine Richelieu
A relentlessly charismatic woman with an insatiable drive to make girls uncomfortable. Most high-ranking female officers have gotten used to ignoring her advances. When actually being serious, she is a peerless archer.
7th Division Lieutenant: Adrian Zimmerman
Richelieu’s dignified but long-suffering assistant. He is impeccably punctual and polite, and his Zanpakuto is a saber with a blade so sharp that it can cut through lesser swords in a single swing.
8th Division specializes in knowledge on the cultures and technologies of the material plane. They’re the ones who know not to bring a sword to a high school, or what the hell a cell phone is. They’re also kind of a joke.
8th Division Captain: Kenji Ikeda
The only man in Seireitei who can rival Zola for being serious-minded. An intellectual who studies humanity as if they were some rare species of jungle primate in the wild. Has no social skills.
8th Division Lieutenant: Flora Lang
An enthusiastic and spirited girl, eager to oast of her “total mastery of the world of technology”. Her Zanpakuto is a thick metal staff that can manipulate gravity.
9th Division is Seireitei’s internal security force. Their job is to root out treason and bring it down before it can cause serious damage.
9th Divison Captain: Galya Derzhavin
A woman with a heart of ice, known to many as The Executioner. In her centuries of service, countless traitors have perished by her hands. She lives and dies by an uncompromising ideal of justice.

A crafty and charistmatic woman with a knack for figuring out other people’s secrets. She’s said to know private embarassing facts about every officer in Seireitei. She wields a rare twin Zanpakuto, and her release allows them to move without being held.
10th Division is the peacekeeping force for Seireitei and the Rukon District. They break up riots or other chaos before it can spread, and let everyone else lead a peaceful life.

Seireitei’s #1 alcoholic. When she isn’t drinking and swearing up a storm, she’s doing her job so well that nobody can fault her for all the boozing. In all her time in Seireitei, she has never taken a life.

A constantly overworked man who keeps everything running whenever Cho is on another drunken bender. His Zanpakuto can create intense flashes of light to blind or dazzle his opponents.
11th Division is the strongest fighting force in the Court Guard, because it is absolutely all they do. Strength is valued, finesse is mocked, and nearly all its members have strictly physical combat styles.
11th Divison Captain: Olafur the Red
A mountain of a man from the frozen north. His Zanpakuto is a battle axe, and he has a reputation for being wild, unpredictable and dangerous.
11th Division Lieutenant: Toku Ryuzouji
Seireitei’s #2 alcoholic. A strong and uncompromisingly honest woman with a strength of character firm enough to cut through stone. She enjoys drinking, fighting, and drinking while fighting. Her released Zanpakuto is a pair of massive steel gloves that can deliver a punch like an oncoming train.
12th Division is the Research and Development arm of the Court Guard. They invent new spirit devices and advance Seireitei’s own complex scientific fields.
12th Division Captain: Yuuta Maehara
The youngest and most recently-inducted captain. An eager and bright youth with kind words for all, but some members of 12th Division speak his name in fear.
12th Division Lieutenant: Chugach
The old head of research. He handles most of the day to day supervision of experimental research. His Zanpakuto turns into a staff that can emit sprays of razor-sharp metal wires.
13th Division has a bit of a spooky reputation, as the closest soul reapers to the world of Hollows. They are specialists in the Hollow world, reverse engineering Hollow weapons and tactics and leading any and all expeditions into Hueco Mundo.
13th Division Captain: Rie Kakehashi
An old friend of Nobuko’s, but she’s aged more gracefully. She is usually caught up in her research, and has eyes that look like she hasn’t slept in years.
13th Division Lieutenant: Nagaru Kuno
A young lieutenant whose family was horrifically slaughtered by Hollows. His hatred for Hollowkind is greater than anyone in Seireitei, and his Zanpakuto is a paralytic scythe specialized for executing hollows.
Things in the Bleach universe, and their place in this AU
Menos: The most powerful classes of Hollows, ranging from the enormous Gillian to the highly varied Adjucas to the devastatingly powerful Vasto Lorde. The number of Vasto Lorde in Hueco Mundo is theorized to be high enough that if they were to all attack Soul Society at once, no army would be able to oppose them, but Hollows are naturally distrustful of one another, so no such alliance has ever been formed.
Las Noches: A castle in Hueco Mundo, home to the ruling class of Hollows. It has never been explored, but is believed to be one of the most dangerous places in the universe.
As a side note, the Espadas and Numeros do not exist in this setting, as they were organized as such by Aizen. However, the Hollows do have a king, known only by the name "El Ser Último". Captain-Commander Takatsukasa fought him once several hundred years ago, and neither was able to kill the other.
Arrancar: A rare phenomenon where a Hollow gains Soul Reaper powers by removing their mask. Usually of no consequence, unless the Hollow was a Menos, in which case they can be a serious threat even to Lieutenant or Captain class Soul Reapers. Few have been encountered, but their existence is not secret.
Visored: An even rarer phenomenon where a Soul Reaper increases their own powers by attaining the powers of a Hollow, as exemplified by the temporary generation of a Hollow mask. The existence of Visored is a well-kept secret to everyone outside of the upper echelons of 13th Division, and to dabble in such forces is a crime punishable by execution.
Quincy: As per canon. They existed as an organization counter to Soul Society several centuries ago, but were wiped out. Some individual quincy may still exist.
The Vandenreich probably doesn't exist in this setting.
Toju: A rare but thoroughly-researched phenomenon where a Zanpakuto continues to live as a feral being after its wielder dies. The resulting spirit has only rudimentary intelligence and a limited amount of spiritual energy - after it is expended, the Toju becomes a regular Zanpakuto again. However, some dangerous Toju have the ability to absorb spiritual energy from Soul Reapers, becoming more powerful and prolonging their existence. 10th Division is usually tasked with destroying these.
Bount: They existed once, but were all wiped out.
Mod Souls: As per canon. An experiment carried out some time ago by 12th Division, which was later abandoned. Some Mod Souls do still exist, most as fugitives in the human world, but a rare few in officially sanctioned roles, most doing work for the Great Noble Families.
The Great Noble Families: Four old Soul Society families with a great deal of political power and influence. Their names are Hamada, Kakehashi, Keats, and Chelyadnin.
The Spirit King: An inscrutable being who rules over all of Soul Society. It lives in a sealed-off and closely-protected pocket dimension. None have access to it except for the highly secret Division Zero who act as the Spirit King's personal guard.
Player Characters are generally 10th to 3rd seat officers in the Court Guard Divisions. If you want to do otherwise, talk to me and maybe we can work things out, but much of the action will be inside Seireitei.
