Let's Play Umineko, Episode 1 Scene 17: The Chain

<< | ^^ | >>

Time continues to grind by in the parlor. Maria watches TV, still impervious to the atmosphere.

It really isn't easy to get this family together for a meal, is it?

This island is still a dangerous place. Genji can't go alone.

While Genji knocks, Kanon points out something.

A small item underneath the door.

Another letter from the master of the island.

No, not that master. The other one.

Genji continues to knock on the door, to no avail.

The letter, of course, bears Kinzo's personal seal once more.

Normally, a servant must never enter a guest's room without permission. This is an action unbecoming of Genji's station.

Kanon understands at once. This is an emergency.

The room is still lit. The TV is on.

As Genji pushes the door open, it stops - the chain is still set.

Genji tells Kanon to cut the chain, then heads back to inform Natsuhi.

Safety is an illusion. Everybody in this mansion is in danger.

Genji doesn't mind the possibility of something happening to him, but he'll protect Kanon if he can.

Even before Genji said anything, Nanjo knew that something was wrong.

Kumasawa and Kanon head to the storehouse to get a wire cutter. Genji and Nanjo head to the parlor.

Kanon rushes to the room, Kumasawa lagging behind. However, what they find there takes their breath away.

Another one.

A magical emblem is painted on the door of Eva's room.

Between leaving and coming back, less than five minutes elapsed. Before Kanon left, the door was clean.

So where did this come from?

Kanon swallows, steels himself, and cuts the wire.

Careful not to leave any fingerprints, he opens the door.

A stray thought, as the full impact of Eva's condition makes its way through Kanon's mind.

BGM: Golden Slaughterer

But there were two of them. What's become of Hideyoshi?

Hideyoshi is here, too.

Just like Eva, some kind of demonic weapon has pierced his forehead.

Genji returns with Natsuhi and Nanjo. They don't know yet.

But that doesn't last long.

While Nanjo examines the body, Kanon's focus is on the weapon. It's not a knife. It's more like a short-handled spear.

It's a device that could only be designed to murder.

The rest of the family is here, too.

Total pandemonium ensues.

Out in the hallway, Battler weeps openly at the devastating tragedy.

Every survivor has lost someone dear to them now.

But quickly, his sorrow turns to anger.

Whoever is responsible, Battler will find them.
