Let's Play Umineko, Episode 2 Scene 5: The Pieces
<< | ^^ | >>

Kanon
A young servant. He performs his duties silently and diligently, but is not so highly regarded as a servant due to his unsociable nature.
There are several other servants with the "on" character in their pseudonyms. He and Shannon just happened to be the ones on duty that day.

And at least, we're back here. The fateful day of the conference.

Surprising absolutely nobody, Maria is a huge fan of Halloween! Unfortunately for her, this is a business trip, not a holiday, so she has to dress nice. You know, by Ushiromiya fashion sense standards.

Because she was pampered when she was younger, Maria's temper is erratic when she doesn't get her way. Rosa tried to turn around and be harsh on her instead, but it's only harmed their relationship.

It's... It's "Trick or Treat," Maria.

Some unexpected candy from a stranger quickly spirals into a big scene. Rosa loses control of the situation.

She also loses control of herself.

The train has become completely silent. It is a very loud silence.

The situation doesn't improve after the train ride ends.

The more she cries, the more Rosa hits her. The more Rosa hits her, the more she cries.

Rosa finally notices the large number of people staring at them.

Same as it always goes. After regaining her senses, Rosa hugs Maria and apologizes over and over.

A perfectly healthy relationship, really.

To make up for her transgressions, Rosa changes her mind, and lets Maria have a candy she had been making a scene about earlier.
A small gesture, and one that will cost her valuable time, but Maria is everything she has.

Rokkenjima.
Now, before the conference, things seem like they might be okay.

A... A really long metaphor about Krauss's financial incompetence involving see-saws follows.

Seriously, it just keeps going.

See-saws, man.

Ushiromiya's eldest son, and yet one of his greatest disappointments.
Natsuhi promises to take care of every preparation for the conference. For now, Krauss can rest easy.

The servants prepare for the guests. Kumasawa is off loafing around, as usual.

The guest house is ready for the cousins' arrival. Shannon and Kanon will be working hard tonight.

Of course, every guest to the manor is important.
But this one is different.

What could Shannon be thinking about?

The loser practicing his proposal speech in an airport bathroom. Who else?

Speaking of losers, here's a whole family of them!
The plane was delayed, which is the only reason Rosa hasn't already missed it.

Looks like the whole gang is here.

Battler catches up with the family for a bit. People tell him how tall he's grown.

I... guys. Trick or Treat. Trick or Treat!
Looks like Maria got that jack o' lantern candy after all.

On Rokkenjima, Jessica stares down a portrait.
What if Beatrice arrives? Some long-lost relative, after Kinzo's money?

She plays coy, but Kumasawa has some ghost stories, of course.
This island used to be a deeply-feared place. Boats regularly wrecked along its shores. It was said that evil spirits lurked there.

And that's why the shrine was built. You know, the place where Shannon broke a mirror, and the place that no longer exists.
If Beatrice were to come to the conference now, why, there would be nothing to stop her...

As we know, Rudolf is having financial and legal troubles with an American company.
To a void a lengthy and probably doomed trial, his company will have to pay through the nose and change their name and brand name, at an absolute minimum.

In other words, say it with me, kids!
MORE THAN ANYTHING, HE NEEDS A LOT OF MONEY, RIGHT NOW!!!

That was all before getting on this plane. For the moment, those troubles are far away, but they'll return as soon as he meets his siblings.

Much is going the same as last time around. Kinzo still has no interest in joining the family for the conference. He has bigger plans.

Kinzo is planning a ceremony. A gamble, with everything at stake.

It seems that the family has arrived.

Purgatorio

Do you have any problems?
...No.
Don't tell me you don't have a plan?
Since I don't know your moves, I don't have any plan. Feel free to take the initiative.
Hmph.. in what way shall I destroy your defense? Within how many moves will I checkmate you? It's an opportunity to display my skills.
Whatever moves you come at me with, I won't believe you! As long as I stand my ground on that point, I won't lose. This game was made so that I can't defeat you, right?
In other words, this is torture. It's eternal torture that will continue until you surrender to me...! It will continue eternally, until you recognize me and the existence of the witch!
In that case, I'll go along with you endlessly, any number of times, until you run out of patience. I've never lost a battle of endurance.
Did a witch from somewhere suggest that to you?
I'm tired of listening to your rambling. C'mon, let's get this started!
Come, then, let us begin! A defense doesn't amount to much if I already know its plan! Don't think you'll be able to defy me with these same moves!
Beatrice, I have only one thing to tell you before we start.
What is it?

How interesting! Torture where we torment each other sounds truly interesting!
Come, let's begin that torture, Battleeeer!
