Let's Play Umineko, Episode 2 Chapter 18: The Spider's Web

<< | ^^ | >>

Kanon

There is no corpse. And yet, he is dead.

The witch said so in red. Therefore, he is definitely dead, even if there is no corpse.

Soluton to the Wolves and Sheep puzzle:
1. Two wolves go to the far bank.
2. One wolf takes the boat back to the near bank.
3. Two sheep go to the far bank.
4. One wolf takes the boat back.
5. Two wolves go to the far bank.
6. Mission complete.

Nanjo isn't able to do much. Kanon's wound may already be fatal.

The brutally injured servant is trying to tell the others something. Something about Rosa.

He says that when Kanon and Jessica were alone, Rosa came.

If what Kanon says is true, the implications are steep.

It would mean that Rosa is the culprit.

She has motive, too - everyone in the way of her inheritance is being killed.

Also, those who remain are alone with her right now, and she has a gun.

Shannon flees the room, to find something. Whatever it is, it's hidden in the boiler room.

As Kanon bleeds, Gohda and Genji discuss the parlor situation.

Rosa has at least four or five shots. Reloading a Winchester takes practice. If she attacks, one person will die, but the rest may be able to take the gun from her.

Kanon is still conscious. He should be dead by now, but tenacity is holding him together.

Kanon says that he heard it from Rosa herself: She's planning to kill everyone to get the inheritance.

How is he standing? The injury goes all the way to his lungs.

Kanon unties his bandages, prodding the massive hole in his chest to demonstrate how it's not so bad of a wound after all.

Around now, Shannon returns.

What does that mean? Who else could it be?

Shannon returned from the boiler with a filthy handkerchief. A spider's web hangs from it.

When Shannon brings the web close to Kanon's thigh, something happens.

Kanon leaps back, a Locus forming around his arm. In an instant, Nanjo and Kumasawa are slain. Shannon only survives because Genji pulled her back in the nick of time.

Gohda brings his considerable weight and muscle to bear in pinning Kanon down before he can do anything else.

Before Kanon can kill Gohda, Genji pins his free hand to the wall with a thrown knife.

Genji and Shannon approach with the spiderweb.

When the web touches Kanon's flesh, he burns, then bursts.

Another demonstration of the Golden Witch's power has taken two more lives.

And Kanon is gone again.

Rosa demands an explanation. Genji and Gohda both struggle with providing one. What did they just see?

As far as Rosa's concerned, either it was Kanon, or it was Beatrice.

Gohda eventually gets his story out. Someone, stained with blood, came to the back door. He won't say who he thought it was, and now he's not sure who it was at all.

It was Kanon. But then, it definitely was something other than Kanon.

The crux of the issue is that Nanjo and Kumasawa have been killed. Beyond that, it seems like the servants saw something that can't be explained with words.

Rosa demands to investigate the bodies.

This by itself is strange, isn't it?

In the end, everyone goes to the servant room.

But... once again, something is wrong.

Gohda just unlocked the door now, as they approached the servant room.

Even so, the bodies disappeared again.

Even if Kanon is responsible, this would be impossible for him. After all, they found his master key in Jessica's pocket.

Wait, no, that's wrong, isn't it? Nanjo took that key. And Nanjo was one of the corpses.

What if there are two culprits? Beatrice, and someone posing as Kanon. The theory goes like this:

1. Beatrice hides in the room beforehand.
2. "Kanon" kills Nanjo, then escapes.
3. Once Genji leaves, Beatrice takes the master key from Nanjo's pocket, steals the body, and locks the door behind her.

Purgatorio

If the culprit had taken the master key back by the method you say, that culprit would have to know that Nanjo had taken the master key from Jessica's body.
You don't have to tell me that... You're probably trying to say that it's information only the people in that place, at that time, could know... heh, this third closed room was crushed so fast that you can't do anything but say that sarcastically. There's no art in repeating the same content...

Get Battler to admit a witch did it, or get Battler to admit that someone he knows did it. He'll consider either one a loss.

There is no need. The premise of your reasoning will be destroyed starting now.
Oh? You refuse?! So someone really is hiding?!
Rosa will now destroy your premise! Hahahahahaha! Let's try listening in.

Rokkenjima

As the servants protest their innocence, Rosa searches the room carefully.

And she does find something: Another sealed envelope from the Golden Witch.

It reads:

But that's not all. There's a postscript.
