Let's Play Umineko, Episode 2 Scene 20: The Wolves
<< | ^^ | >>

Rosa's taking charge again. There are two kinds of people you can trust right now: Corpses, and yourself.
Therefore, Kumasawa and Nanjo are wolves as well, and will continue to be wolves until their bodies are found.

After sacrificing ten of the greatest years of her life to this family, this is how Shannon is repaid.

There's an alternative, though. Maybe there's no need to find an answer.
Maybe all the murders were committed by a 19th person, who used magic.
If that was the case, Battler would be able to stop suspecting others.

Genji ultimately sides with his master, even though it means likely incriminating himself.
Even if the corpses are found, only the corpses would be exonerated. The others still wouldn't be able to prove their innocence.

The only way for them to prove anyone's innocence in life is to find the real culprit.
Genji swears, as furniture of the Ushiromiya family, to serve faithfully to the end, regardless of Rosa's conclusions.

He considers the master key a symbol of the trust placed in him. Since that trust has been lost, it's only natural that he return it to the family.
Gohda and Shannon follow suit.

Rosa takes Maria's handbag, and puts all five master keys inside. Now, nobody has a master key other than her.

She is interrupted by the sound of high-pitched laughter.

Before Rosa can be possessed by a bad witch again, Battler cuts in. He drops to his knees, hugging Maria.

It was the witch's doing. It was all the witch.
Beatrice exists. Magic exists. Witches exist.
No more worrying about sheep and wolves and closed rooms. It was all done by Beatrice's magic.

Searching for the culrpit was a waste of time from the very beginning.

The family retires to the parlor, locking it from the inside. The servants retire to the kitchen.
If any of them are innocent, they have been thrown to a den of wolves.
When the seagulls cry, whoever is still alive may be able to regain their sense of trust.

George goes with the servants, instead of with his family. The reason is obvious.

In the parlor: Battler, Maria, Rosa.
In the kitchen: Genji, Gohda, Shannon, George.
In the study: Kinzo.
Corpses: Krauss, Natsuhi, Eva, Hideyoshi, Rudolf, Kyrie, Jessica.
Missing: Kanon, Nanjo, Kumasawa.
The parlor door closes.

BGM: Prison Strip

Rosa doesn't buy this as proof for a second. Who can say there isn't a sixth key?

Shannon relates the full story of the impossible nightmare in the servant room.
Gohda and Genji back her up. George accepts it fairly easily.

Evil spirits can be repelled by spiderwebs. So said Kumasawa.
Shannon blames herself for this disaster. If only she hadn't broken that mirror...

Shannon's known that Beatrice was real from the start, of course. She even made a deal with her.
Genji does not offer an opinion. He only relates what he believes he saw.

If Beatrice is real, then this room won't protect anyone. They need magical defenses. And apparently, such a device exists in Natsuhi's room.

The plan:
Go to the chapel. Gohda breaks a window to get in.
Search Natsuhi's corpse for the key to her room.
Unlock Natsuhi's room.
Get the spirit mirror.

Now that Rosa has sealed herself away, George is the new master. And so, he takes command.

Well aware of the possibility that he may be killed, Genji remains behind. Somebody must be here to serve the Ushiromiya family, should an order come.

The actual reason, though, is that Genji had seen something in the room. Something that made him want to chase the younger ones out.

With a flick of his wrist, Genji throws a knife, pinning the golden butterfly to the wall. It evaporates a second later.
