Let's Play Umineko, Episode 3 Scene 2: The Dream

<< | ^^ | >>

Asmodeus of Lust

Advanced-level furniture created by Beatrice.

As the youngest of the sisters, Asmodeus is always doted upon. This might be why she alone is kept out of the way whenever an even slightly lewd topic comes up.

She's always looking for a boyfriend in the hopes that her sisters will finally accept her as an adult.

However, she keeps aiming too high, and whiles away each day dreaming of the prince who will never come.

The Ushiromiya family is en route to Rokkenjima! Rudolf and Hideyoshi bond over their smoking habits.

All of them are a little on edge, with their financial battle against Krauss on the way.

One might even say that MORE THAN ANYTHING, THEY NEED okay you get the idea.

Part of the reason for Eva's aggressive personality is the degree to which Kinzo favors men over women. If she wants her voice to be heard, it has to be loud as hell.

Eva wasn't allowed to go to college, due to the combined sexist bullshit of her father and older brother. All she wanted was to become a leader worth of the Ushiromiya name, but she was denied the opportunity.

A woman's job is supporting her husband. That is the role decided for a daughter of the Ushiromiya family.

Really, if you look at it objectively, Eva is much more capable than Krauss in just about every way.

The old argument ended with Kinzo, crashing in to remind Krauss how unworthy he is to be the head.

As for Eva...

Marry a man who will bring profit to the family. Be a good wife. Have many children.

Kinzo worked himself into a coughing rage again. Genji asks Eva to leave for now.

Having such thoughts hammered into you daily would take its toll on anyone. Sometimes, Eva wonders if she really is just a disappointment who doesn't know her place.

At such times, the one who comes to her defense is her younger self, reminding herself what they promised to achieve.

Some day, Eva will be the head. That is how she will heal the wounds in her heart.

Young Eva's magic has the ability to turn anger into power. As long as Eva has access to that power, there's nothing she can't accomplish.

The words that Eva can't say out loud, Young Eva says for her. The family is prejudiced scum, better off dead.

But the rule that a woman can't be the head was created by Kinzo. So, it's not impossible that Kinzo could reverse it.

Young Eva promises that this day will eventually come.

Unfortunately, Eva is an adult now. Unlike her younger self, she's forgotten how to use magic.

Instead, she takes the dreams she once held, and forces them onto George.

However, the only way George can become head is if Kinzo passes over Jessica for being a woman. That victory can only come through the same pain that Eva suffered.

No, she must attack head-on.

My beloved hometown, the bountiful river running through it.
You who seek the Golden Land, follow its path downstream and seek the key...

That was all long ago, of course. Now, she's on a boat, which Battler is terrified of.

The boat has arrived. Once again, the family has gathered here on Rokkenjima.

Hideyoshi reassures an unexpectedly morose Eva. She hasn't done anything wrong. George has never said a word against her.

"Nightmare" isn't exactly the right word, but the dream wasn't very pleasant, either.

Eva apologizes for yelling at Hideyoshi for smoking earlier. It's time to go ashore.

In the corner of her mind, Eva hears a second voice welcoming her back. Or at least, it seems like she does.

The cries of the seagulls can't be heard.

34 hours remain

On the beach, four cousins catch up on old times.

Since Battler's been gone for six years, he's the center of attention.

Some things are the same in all timelines.

Shannon's got some dirt. She remembers the old Battler well.

When you see text in brackets like that, it's being spoken in English.

In short, 12-year-old Battler was a hilarious tryhard.

Battler's dignity is not spared. I guess everyone has to be a loser before they can be an adult.

The crisis is averted for now, but no doubt this isn't the end of Battler and his embarrassing horse-related stories of yesteryear.

Jessica urges Battler to keep this a secret - Eva wouldn't be pleased if she knew.

She probably already does, though.

So that's what that embarrassing one-liner was probably about.

Gosh, I wonder if Jessica has something going on with Kanon. I mean, with somebody.

Apparently she confessed to someone and struck out badly.

There's no escaping Battler's keen eye.

Both of these young loves will face resistance from the family.

It looks like Battler is the same huge doofus he was six years ago.

The four promise to remain friends, no matter what happens.

They won't become their parents. They won't backstab each other in search of Kinzo's money.

Who cares what their parents expect of them?

Who cares about the inheritance?

They can remain friends forever.
