Let's Play Umineko, Episode 3 Scene 13: The New Beatrice
<< | ^^ | >>

His body was found burnt to death in the incinerator in the underground boiler room.
Because there was no evidence found inside the incinerator, it is probably appropriate to think that he was burned after he was murdered.
Too bad this time. It was game over right from the start.

His body was found in the VIP room on the second floor. The weapon is assumed to be a gun or a spear-shaped object.
Genji worked for many years of service, so let's let him sleep in the honored guest's room.

Her corpse was found in the parlor on the first floor. The weapon is assumed to be a gun or a spear-shaped object.
For Shannon, the parlor, with its wonderful view of the rose garden on sunny days.

His corpse was found in the chapel. The weapon is assumed to be a gun or a spear-shaped object.
For Kanon, the chapel. Now that he's dead, let him continue to protect the place important to the Lord.

His corpse was found in the waiting room on the third floor. The weapon is assumed to be a gun or a spear-shaped object.
The room next to the study is fitting for him, since he wanted Kinzo to like him.

Her corpse was found in the guest room on the second floor. The weapon is assumed to be a gun or a spear-shaped object.
This seldom-used second floor guest room was her secret napping room.

Eva is not alone when she leaves the hidden chamber.
Is it Beatrice? The 19th guest?

Nope, it's Rosa.
It seems that Eva wasn't the only one to put the pieces together at the end.

Rosa claims to not be interested in winning the game at all.
On the other hand, the peace here is a fragile one. If either of the two sisters pull the trigger, she'll have all the gold to herself.
Eventually, they both lower their guns.

Eventually, the police will be here. No amount of money is worth a life in prison.

The two sisters head down to the hidden room.
Rosa sees the gold for herself.

The same argument from the first game is turned on its head now. 50% to the finder, the rest split evenly among the siblings.
The real trouble will be the negotiations going forward. Krauss will no doubt be furious...

Don't be hasty, now. This is a situation that requires delicate handling. Krauss may still upset the balance if they don't carefully plan their announcement.

Rosa disagrees with Eva's logic. She insists, so long as both of them have a stake in the gold, that she also has a stake in what they do with it.
Of course, that would change if Eva allowed Rosa to secure her 2.5 billion immediately.

It's not that Rosa wants the gold so readily. She knows Eva won't hand it over right now.
She just wants to make sure that Eva isn't planning anything underhanded by doing this as fairly and quickly as possible.

Eva points out that they're both in danger out here. Rosa has her own counter-argument: No murders have taken place.

This is the simplest explanation for the six locked rooms. Nanjo lied about their condition. Nobody is dead.
Eva agrees - she thought of the same thing a while back. All of this is an act, staged by Kinzo, to get them to solve the epitaph. When Eva proclaims herself the winner, he will emerge from the shadows and congratulate her.

Rosa persistently badgers Eva about how long it will take her to reveal her victory. Eva won't even promise that it will be today.
Rosa agrees to keep quiet about it until tomorrow morning. When the seagulls cry, her silence ends. Eva promises to fairly distribute the wealth.

Inside Eva, a witch defies this promise.
A second witch responds.

Beatrice the Golden acknowledges young Eva as the winner of the game. The gold is hers to do with as she sees fit.

Ushiromiya Eva is now the true head of the family.
With only a little hesitation, she puts the ring on.

The reign of Beatrice the Golden is over.

BGM: Happiness of Marionette

With Beatrice's proclamation, the mansion changes.
The Golden Witch takes up her staff, and touches it to the kneeling Eva's shoulder, proclaiming her a true witch.

There is no longer a person named Ushiromiya Eva.

There is only Beatrice.

No longer the true Beatrice, the former Endless Witch calls for the portraits to be changed to honor Rokkenjima's new ruler.

Virgilia is now two generations removed from the title. She and Ronove both congratulate the new Beatrice.

A certain weirdo is here as well! As a member of the witch senate, her recommendation carried significant weight.

Even Lady Bernkastel is crashing the party. She claims she's just here for the drinks.

Beatrice is having trouble adjusting to everything that's happening. Her seven new pieces of furniture present themselves humbly.

Purgatorio

I was surprised, too. Imagine that someone would be able to solve that riddle. However, that is the rule. I must follow it, and pass on the position of Golden Witch and my name.
It is hardly something to be surprised about. From the beginning, Milady wrote that rule in a letter and announced it. Eva was the first to be successful. That is all.
Virgilia, are you there?!
Yes, here I am...
What does this farce mean?! Even if this depiction of strange witches showing up one after another is some of her bullshit...! Isn't this like Eva has become a witch?!
Calm yourself. She has simply received the title of 'Endless Witch', and might call herself that in the future. This succession ceremony is certainly nothing more than an act to promote that child's explanation. Don't fall for the same move twice.
That's right... That whole grand ceremony was all phony, but it's at least a fact that Eva has solved the riddle. At the same time, that means she succeeded the Ushiromiya family inheritance. And by obtaining 10 tons of gold, it means Eva might as well call herself the Golden Witch... is that it? Damn, it's as complicated as ever!
My, my. Is a boorish human unable to comprehend the grandeur of this ceremony? Oh, well, being unable to read between the lines is what makes you human. I pity you, but I do not blame you.
Damn it... Don't look at me like you still feel sorry for me... Still, for the time being, there's something I need to check, and that's regarding this younger version of Eva. In other words, the definition of this new Beatrice. What is that?
Even if I tell you of it, you will just persist in your disbelief in magic and witches, right? So there's nothing for me to explain.
For now, grasping it as a visualization of a different being inside Ushiromiya Eva might not be a hindrance.
Of course, you cannot blindly accept it, but it is probably appropriate for you to think that way now.
In other words, I should think that she and Eva are thes ame person? This is starting to feel bad...
In any case, from now on, my name is not Beatrice, because I have passed it on to Eva. Which means that I am nameless! Battler, isn't there some name that is fitting for me? I shall take your recommendation! Isn't there some name that's refined, full of elegance... and make it a little cute, if you can!
Just 'Beato' is good enough for you.
Stay as Beato, is it? It doesn't feel odd, but it's a little boring.
Pukukuku... they say that the temperature of black tea and a woman's heart are difficult in any era.
Battler, be calm. Compared to when this child was Beatrice, this situation is advantageous to us.
And that's exactly why I don't like this. What is she planning? Beato...
Having inherited the title, Beatrice has regained all of the composure that cracked when she found the gold. All that can be seen on her face is innocent joy.

Battler watches on from Purgatorio. Eva has worked hard for all her life to become the head, and now, her wish has been granted.

For just a moment, Battler and Beato both applaud the hard work of the same person.

Hmm. It isn't bad once in a while. Still, it is fun to applaid. Even though it was Eva who won and not me, for some reason, I'm starting to feel happy.
That's because blessing someone means the same thing as sympathizing and sharing with them.
I see. Then, I have shared this irrational happy feeling with you.. Since we are a pair of enemies trying to make each other surrender, it is an odd experience.
