Let's Play Umineko, Episode 3 Scene 16: The Old Furniture

<< | ^^ | >>

October 5th, 1986, 1:00 PM
11 hours remain

People are getting hungry again. Lasting for the next 24 hours without food will be torture.

So, they plan to go to the mansion and raid the kitchen.

Krauss is, theoretically, the current head of the family. He should remain here.

The group is proposed as Rudolf, Kyrie and Hideyoshi. Two with guns, one with a luggage cart to carry food.

Natsuhi tries to argue against this rash action, but Kyrie points out Eva - in her condition, starving her for a day is a very, very bad idea.

The three leave the lobby, venturing out into the darkness.

The group charges through the garden. Miraculously, nobody dies horribly on the way through.

Kyrie has one of the master keys. She uses it to unlock the entrance. Rudolf and Hideyoshi pretend to be a SWAT team as they enter the mansion.

No signs of life. It's just a short dash to the kitchen.

BGM: The Candles Dance

All of this, of course, is in accordance with Beatrice's plot. They are walking into a trap.

There is no escape.

Ronove appears to praise Beatrice for her spectacular mastery of magic, despite only learning it earlier today.

Fortunately, before she can commit any further atrocities of torment, Ronove is there to lay down the rules. The Stakes will carry out the murders.

However, she is an Endless Witch, who can kill over and over, isn't she? Only the last kill needs to be elegant and in keeping with the ceremony.

Surprisingly, the weapons that the small group brought with them are quite potent. Guns are a powerful weapon against witches, capable of inflicting wounds as if they were human. There are countermeasures, but they are highly advanced magic, and the new Beatrice lacks the preparations required.

This is one reason witches have furniture - this way, she can attack the group without exposing herself to serious danger.

Two of the Stakes are summoned. Their targets: Kyrie and Rudolf.

Not content to simply ambush and kill them, EVA-Beatrice orders her furniture to instil the fear of death in their quarry before making the final strike.

The sisters depart. They will die if attacked using guns, but furniture of their level should be able to dodge easily.

In the kitchen, the three interlopers are gathering food supplies.

Kyrie's intuition is strong. Outside of the kitchen, she senses an ambush.

There's a back door they could use to avoid the ambush, but it seems to be stuck. The only way out is the way they came in.

The humans step out into another world.

Rudolf and Hideyoshi fire immediately, but they're already gone by the time the shots reach them.

Three of them, two enemies. If they split up, at least one should escape safely.

They split up and run, the furniture watching calmly.

BGM: Worldend Dominator

In one hallway, Rudolf VS Belphegor. Rudolf fires once, and in that span of time, the stake is already behind him, ready to deal the killing blow.

But Rudolf isn't going down that easily. By the time she gets into position, he's already reloaded, and is ready to fire a second shot, without even looking behind him.

There is the sound of thunder.

In another hallway, Kyrie VS Leviathan.

She is Leviathan of Envy. Envy itself is her power, and the envy she feels for the bond between Kyrie and Rudolf is immense.

Kyrie blocks the first swing with her gun. Leviathan's Locus can cut through metal with no effort, but this is no mere metal - as Ronove warned, guns are devices with immense anti-magic power.

Kyrie kicks Leviathan away, taking aim with her gun as the furniture flies through the air.

There is the sound of thunder.

Miraculously, Rudolf is still alive! But he's fighting an uphill battle against Belphegor's inhuman speed.

As he tumbles into the lobby, he sees a familiar face.

Rudolf has a pretty good idea of what's going on.

As he takes aim, he apologizes to Rosa for sending her sister to hell.

But he still has an enemy to be fighting, doesn't he?

Belphegor disappears into Rudolf's blind spot again and again. As his defense wavers, she finally draws blood.

As Rudolf is swallowed up by Belphegor's dance, Beatrice laughs louder and louder...

Leviathan was always the slowest and weakest of the seven sisters. That inferiority complex granted her a power greater than any of them. The power of envy.

And yet, Kyrie remains relaxed. Why?

Her jealousy at Kyrie's bond gives her power, and power gives her speed. She transforms into a stake, and flies faster than the speed of sound.

As Leviathan screams with total certainty of her victory, Kyrie begins to talk in a calm, composed voice.

Asumu, Rudolf's first wife. Kyrie says that she seduced Rudolf away from her. Both of them were pregnant. Both had their delivery dates on the same day.

Asumu gave birth to Battler. Kyrie had a miscarriage.

Kyrie's entire life was envy, from the moment Rudolf married Asumu to the moment Asumu died.

Leviathan's power is fueled by seven days and seven nights of envy.

Is that supposed to scare her?

Leviathan's seven days of envy. Kyrie's eighteen years of envy. 938 times greater.

The top speed Leviathan's envy provides is 1225 kph. However, in the face of Kyrie's envy, it's 938 times slower. Barely the speed of a baby crawling across the floor.

Meanwhile, Rudolf continues to struggle against Belphegor.

At the limit of his power, Rudolf makes one final request.

A duel. Three paces, turn and fire.

Of course, this isn't something Rudolf can possibly win.

Belphegor only agreed out of respect for Rudolf's courage. She knows that this is little more than a formal execution.

They both take three steps.

A bullet pierces Belphegor's magic barrier effortlessly. It's a direct hit, right in the chest.

She could have easily dodged it - so why?

Belphegor's loyalty was her downfall. Rudolf planned this from the start - she didn't notice until it was too late.

He positioned the duel so that Belphegor was directly between him and Beatrice. If she had dodged, it would have hit her master.

Pinning the rook with the king is a classic chess maneuver.

Belphegor's nature is sloth. If it wasn't, she might have put in the effort of checking the situation before taking those three steps.

The impossible has happened. Against Beatrice's powerful furniture, two humans claimed victory!

Despite the apparent hopelessness of the situation... Beatrice laughs.

How could that weak furniture have been expected to win? It's outdated goods.

Just the furniture of the old Beatrice.

It's time to show her true power.

EVA-Beatrice summons the next generation of furniture.
