Let's Play Umineko Chiru, Episode 5 Scene 10: The Orders

<< | ^^ | >>

October 4th, 1986, 11:49 PM
24 hours, 11 minutes remain

BGM: Rose

The family has failed to gain access to the study. After he didn't rouse them, they demanded Genji hand over the second study key.

Natsuhi promised to let them meet Kinzo tomorrow morning, and they fell back to the dining hall, where the argument continued.

The argument just keeps on going in circles. Without Kinzo, nothing can be settled.

Eventually, Krauss suggests they take a break.

Krauss and Natsuhi withdraw to rest a bit. By which they mean, have a strategy meeting.

Kyrie suspects Kinzo won't show up tonight. Battler may as well go to bed soon.

The tension eases a bit. Rudolf considers telling them (it sounds like they haven't heard the news), but Eva says there's no reason to tell the servants about conference business.

Hideyoshi starts rambling about his post-war time spent diverting goods illegally from the American army, and the day's problems are quickly forgotten.

You hear that? An order from the next head!

After some time, a knock on the door.

Gohda has the midnight shift in the guest house.

Kumasawa went to bed, also in the guest house.

Genji's knock sounds nothing like what they just heard.

No answer. Another knock.

The clock strikes midnight. October 5th has begun.

A few minutes earlier, Krauss and Natsuhi convene in the hallway.

The discovery of the gold has thrown everything into chaos. Kinzo will have to disappear early.

This plan is not foolproof. Eva and the others will call it suspicious, and strange rumors will spread, damaging Krauss's already-rocky reputation.

Still, if they find out that Kinzo has been dead for over a year, it will be much, much worse.

One thing is certain even now - nobody can get into that room. Natsuhi has the only two keys.

Once in a blue moon, Krauss's compassionate side emerges.

When the time comes, Krauss alone will wield this final weapon.

And Krauss alone will pay the price.

This is, in all likelihood, the end of the Ushiromiya family.

Someone speaks up, apologizing for the interruption.

Krauss shuffles off to let Genji speak to Natsuhi in confidence.

The clock strikes midnight.

That man again. The one who called her Mother.

18 years ago, Natsuhi had finally been able to have a child. Until then, she was treated coldly, as a failure of a wife.

Ushiromiya Natsuhi's life began 18 years ago. Everything before that is hateful memories.

Natsuhi will take the call in her room. Krauss won't know about it.

Natsuhi picks up the receiver.

BGM: Deep Blue Jeer

Natsuhi resists the urge to hang up. If she hangs up now, they might call someone else...

The mysterious caller wants to play.

Hearing an unspoken threat in the question, Natsuhi answers. It's fall.

What's more, he claims he can prove that he already knew Natsuhi's favorite season.

The caller tells her to lift up the clock. If she doesn't, he'll hang up, and there's no telling what he'll do next. Maybe he'll tell Krauss and Jessica what happened nineteen years ago.

Natsuhi lifts the clock. Behind it is a small card.

She flips it over to read what's written there.

She'll say she's happy. She'll do anything, as long as he doesn't bring her husband and daughter into this.

What does he want? Money?

He says that he's on the island right now. Didn't he promise he would come to the family conference?

Whoever he is, he's close enough to know about Erika.

That's all he has to say for now. But there will be more, and she knows she can't disobey.

Oh, he has one last order.

He'll keep her secret, as long as she obeys.

As she screams that she'll keep her promise, Natsuhi crushes the card she found under the clock.

It had a pattern on it like a tarot card, surrounding the word "Fall".
