Let's Play Mother 3

Chapter 1: Night of the Funeral
Part 2: A Foresty, Firey Forest Fire

This is where we were at of our last save. So, we just need to head due north to get to Lighter and Fuel.

There's those pig guys again! He's sending buzzy things out into the forest!

This here is an aspect of the combat system that the game doesn't mention much: Sound Battle.
When you attack, you can keep tapping A in rhythm with the music, and you'll keep getting extra hits in, doing progressively less damage with each hit. The maximum hits is 16.

It's Lighter! He doesn't look so good!

THOMAS
Hey! Lighter! You alright?!

LIGHTER
Flint... oh, and Thomas... d-dammit... *cough*
I try to beat these things up, but more just keep comin'! I can't get past 'em! *cough* *cough*

THOMAS
What IS that thing?! A bug?!

LIGHTER
*cough* *cough* Dunno. They're goin' around the forest, lightin' fires.
But never mind that, FUel's still at home!

THOMAS
What?! Fuel's still in your shack?! Flint! You go help fuel! I'll look after lighter!

Yes, sir. But first:

Speak softly...

...and carry a big stick.

We're under attack! By some kind of flying things!

it's our first multi-enemy battle! That means it's time to bust out one of Flint's skills:

Swing.

With the ability to do 40 damage each to every enemy, and the Fireflies' ability to do 3-4 damage per hit, I make short work of the group.

Seriously, like I said. everywhere.

Fuel!

And some... thing!
Time for extreme rescue!

It's pretty intense in here. Also, the aforementioned thing can be seen here. It is...

...a flying mouse.

That, uh. I mean, it makes sense.

One very threatening battle later, Flint is victorious.

EXTREME RESCUE

Well, that sure was close.

FUEL
Wahh! I'm pitch black and covered in soot, but I'm alive.
Oh, you're pitch black too, Mr. Flint. Thank you, Mr. Pitch Black Flint! Thank you so much, Mr. Pitch Black Flint!
Oh, yeah! We need to let my dad know I'm okay. He's probably worried sick about me somewhere!

One quick run through the woods later...

LIGHTER
Th-that voice... is that you, Fuel?! You're alright?!
What the?! What in the world happened to you?! You're pitch black, and covered in soot!

FUEL
What about you, Dad?! You busted your leg!

LIGHTER
Oh, this? This ain't nothin'! All I gotta do is twist this like so, and then do this, and then... Oww oww oww! Consarnit!

LOU
Boss! What in the world are you doing?!

LIGHTER
Fixing my injuries, obviously! What does it look like?!

THOMAS
Anyways, we sure are lucky Flint showed up when he did.

ED
Yeah, he and Lighter've always been quarreling buddies since they were kids. It's enough to make me jealous.

LIGHTER
...Thanks, Flint. Guess I showed my not-so-tough side, huh? I owe you one for today.

LOU
I think that could be the first time I've ever heard the boss thank anyone.

BRONSON
Ahaha! You're right! The only thing that could make this day any stranger is if it suddenly started pouring rain.

ED
We need to tend to Lighter. Let's head back to the village for now.

THOMAS
It's a good thing you and Fuel only suffered light injuries.

TESSIE
It's been a while since Tazmily last had rain.
Flint. Please get soem nice rest.

All right, let's head home...

ISAAC
Perfect timing! I heard you were taking a rest here.
......Mighty heavy rain, isn't it? I think I'll join you under the awning.
Flint. Tell me... have you seen Hinawa and the kids?

[Yes No]

ISAAC
......I see.
...Actually, I was up in the mountains earlier, picking mushrooms. While I was up there, I caught sight of Hinawa. Then, while I was taking a break by the river, I heard loud roars far off in the distance... it sounded like it might've been a Drago that was roaring...
After that, I heard... what I think... might've been screams...
Say, Flint.
Hinawa and the kids made it back home, right?
