Final Chapter: Doctrinal Conflict
Part 2: The Guardian Fleet
May 2, 2157
May 2, 2157. In other words, I got here nearly sixteen months faster than my previous run. I'm going to call the speed portion of this run a success!
Now I just have to win.

UR-QUAN
I sense the ugliness of a thousand evil thoughts... and I have located the source of these fetid emanations. They come from aboard your vessel!
Foolish renegade human, why have you come here? All that you have found is your inevitable punishment. You may not approach the ancient Sa-Matra, the symbol of Ur-Quan dominance! Your presence here is further violation of the slave laws, which your species have already violated so flagrantly. We cannot tolerate such insubordination! Your species penalty shall be annihilation!

And so the battle begins. This is also coincidentally my first encounter with Ur-Quan Dreadnoughts. The ship boasts a powerful fusion blaster, strong enough to vaporize my Shofixti scout in a single hit. Furthermore, it can send individual crew out on autonomous drone units, which pursue and harry the enemy with lasers. Each one is individually weak, but with enough, even mighty warships can be torn apart in seconds. The Scout's only hope is to get close enough to the Dreadnought to use its Glory Device, doing as much damage as it can with a heroic sacrifice.

Brave pilot Naninani ducks in at the single moment of opportunity, and erradicates nearly half of the Dreadnought's crew complement with his explosion.
Next up: The Earthling Cruiser.

The Cruiser's point defense laser makes the Dreadnought's autonomous drones worthless, since they would get destroyed as soon as they got in attacking range.

Unfortunately, the Ur-Quan are aware of this fact, and have superior speed to the turtle-like Cruiser. They rush in and bombard the Earthlings ruthlessly with fusion bolts. The battle ends in seconds.

Next up is the Supox Blade. a moderate-to-long range fast attack ship, the Supox's special ability allows it to strafe in any direction.

Now I'm up to my fourth ship - and the Ur-Quan are still on their first. Next in line is the ZoqFot Stinger. The Ur-Quan are running low enough on crew that they've stoped launching drones, so the humble ZoqFot have a slim chance of being able to slip in close enough to deliver a plasma tongue attack, taking out the Dreadnought...

BAM! One down!

Predictably, the Stinger is shot down almost instantly by the next enemy, a Kohr-Ah Marauder. Posthumous medals will be given to TotToe for their bravery.

Next in line is the Orz Nemesis. I launch several commandos, all of which get destroyed before reaching the enemy ship...

...and the ship only gets three hits in before getting reduced to interstellar dust.
All right, I'm now down five ships. The enemy is down one.
It's time to break out the big guns.

Meet the Chmmr Avatar, one of the most powerful conventional ships in the game. Its weapon is a deadly short-range laser, and it is surrounded by three sattelites that automatically attack anything that comes near it, such as projectiles or enemy ships. At close range, it is unparalleled in power.
Its special ability? A tractor beam.

Sadly, the Avatar falls to the Marauder's incredible short-range power. However, it is severely damaged.

My second Avatar destroys it, in an intensely brutal battle that is over in two seconds. It then takes out two-thirds of the crew of the following Dreadnought before being destroyed.
Time for my final trump cards:

The Utwig Jugger.
This is arguably the most powerful ship in the game. Its primary weapon, a moderate-range spread of red bullets, costs no energy. Its energy does not naturally recover. Its special ability, however, is a force field that costs energy, but converts enemy attacks into energy restoration. In the proper hands, that shield renders the Jugger absolutely invincible.

The proper hands, however, are not mine. Nevertheless, the Jugger takes down a third enemy ship, leaving the enemy fleet at half size.

Due to a number of miscalculations, I lose one of my four Juggers to the next enemy.

All right, I'm getting back into the groove here. This Jugger starts leaying a serious beatdown...

...and, with heavy casualties, finishes off the fleet guarding the Sa-Matra. Victory is ours!
...except not, since there's still one thing between me and victory.
The Sa-Matra itself.
TO BE CONTINUED!
