Chapter 1: The Infinite Dungeon
OKAY

NEW CHARACTER

Hmm... I shall accept this starting month.

HIGH ELVEN WIZARD

I'm not going to go into detail about the questionaire this time. Suffice to say, I'm going for whatever answers increase my Learning, followed by Willpower and Toughness.

Only one Talent, so I'm going for Alert.

SO BEGINS THE TALE OF FALLOS

It's Terinyo!
Shall we engage in some pleasant early-game questing?

NO

The Infinite Dungeon
A strangely distorted cave
Threat Level: 1/5 to ∞/5
This is an unusual dungeon in many ways. First of all, as the name implies, it has infinite floors. The rest we'll see soon.

My two starting spells are Acid Bolt and Bless.

My equipment is much weaker than last time! However, I have some nice magic items that will come in very handy later. Equipping the rings for now, at least.
Also note: I can't see item statuses.

First kill! Accomplished unarmed, as my dagger is actually weaker than my fists.

With my fragility, I'm likely to get killed from a single door trap, so no point trying to force locked doors.

New spellbook already!
Frost Bolt, as we will see later, is the most valuable of the bolt spells.

A dark room! These happen from time to time.
The grue warning is a gag, and isn't going to actually happen.
Usually.

*cracks knuckles*

This frost bolt tears through everything it hits!
LEVEL UP

Healing and Concentration are my top priorities, followed by Dodge and First Aid.

And so I run out of PP. Run!

Ah, low level characters.

Next talent: Hardy!

My other bolt spell!
Acid Bolt doesnt bounce, and it lacks the special properties of Frost Bolt, but it does more damage than any other bolt spell.

LEVEL UP

More ransacking of this beautiful room full of EXP!

Concentration maxed at level 5!

Just cleaning up, at this point.

Spoils: A neat hat, a bow, and some arrows.
Now, time to get some STUFF

Floor 2! There's obviously a secret door in here somewhere.
But instead of finding it...

I can just go back up!
In the infinite dungeon, every floor is re-generated every time you go there.

Disaster!
I found a dagger, and it turned out to be a cursed, mild dagger - mild weapons only do 1/5th of the stated damage.

Thank you, scroll of uncursing!

And now for the brunt of my early game: STAIR SCUMMING
Normally, when walking down a corridor, each turn you uncover one tile of dungeon that might have items on it. When you climb the stairs, though, one turn nets you an entire room of exploration.
So by going up and down the same staircase repeatedly, I can find an INSANE amount of items.

My priorities, from highest to lowest:
-Spellbooks
-Monsters
-Weapons
-Other equipment
And since I'm level 6, I now get a 10% reduction on all spell costs!

Next talent: Miser!

Indeed a handly spell!

Now I have a way to deal with cats!

Also using this as an opportunity to train up my archery skills.

CAAAAT
As long as I can reach another staircase, though, I can leave the floor and it's gone forever.

I have a countermeasure for poison before ever encountering it!

Fortune cookies!
They are sometimes accurate, sometimes not.

Sword get!
Swords are a valuable weapon class to have skill in as a wizard, for various midgame reasons.

LEVEL UP

Sounds nice!
Anyway, this goes on for a few days.

A doubly rare sight: A tension room with an open door, and a tension room filled with random monsters!

When I finish my prep phase, here is my spell list!
Acid Ball - Does huge damage to everyone adjacent to me.
Acid Bolt - Seen it.
Bless - Seen it.
Destroy Undead - destroys the hell out of undead.
Farsight - Increases vision range.
Frost Bolt - Seen it.
Light - Lights dark areas.
Magic Lock - Locks a door.
Magic Missile - Bouncing bolt that doesn't damage equipment.
Remove Curse - Uncurses a cursed item.
Slow Monster - Slows down a monster for 3-33 turns.
Slow Poison - Seen it.
Teleportation - Warp to a random point on the level.
Web - Creates a line of entangling webs to slow down enemies.

Next: Straight to the Caverns of Chaos!
