Patchouli here has three special skills - Hit & Away, which allows her to move after attacking in addition to before attacking, Enchant (Fire Sign), which allows Agni Shine to be used post-movement, and Enhanced Barrier, which increases the MP cost of her barrier by 10 but increases its power by 450. I'll be sticking with the first one.



Tengu A: Still alive! She won't be doing any fighting, though, if that lump on her head is any indication. Tengu B is in a similar condition.

Apparently the latest orders for now are to let the invaders be. After all, their opponent is Yasaka now.



Meanwhile, Kappa C reports to Aya about the events of the Marisa path.

Momiji's around too, and expressing criticism of Aya's big article idea. Aya says that it's her duty as a reporter to properly report the incident as it unfolds.



The upcoming battle between humans and gods will determine the course of Youkai Mountain's future...

Chapter 23: Ah, Gods and Mortals on the Grounds of the Divine Lake

Most recently the new god of this mountain, Kanako Yasaka.

This oppressive atmosphere, just from seeing her... she isn't someone to be underestimated.

Yeah, she's on a different level from the ridiculous gods we fought on the way here.

You keep trying to take over my shrine. It's annoying, so stop, okay?

Hmph. You're the maiden of the other shrine, Reimu Hakurei... I've been hoping to talk to you.

Who said anything about talking? We're here to punish you!

So ambitious that you plan to take over the Hakurei Shrine and take all of Gensokyo's faith for yourself... don't think you'll be able to get away with it!

Heh, so you're here to protect the shrine? Just like Sanae said.
Other shrine maiden, you don't bring in any humans, just letting youkai loiter around your shrine...
You're a disgrace to your profession!

Hang on, are we about to get smote for real?

Another hugeass map! We've got seven fairies, seven fuzzballs, seven crows, two heavy fairies, and one god.



And then we charge! This is the new look for Illusion Laser, by the way.





Patchouli is doing her part now! Her power output is not bad, not bad at all.



Her assistant librarian Koakuma isnt too impressive, but she's mainly here for the support appeal.



The early defenses are broken almost effortlessly by my charge. The path to Kanako is open!



I've figured out one thing from the fights so far.

Oho, were you finally permeated with our divine virtue?

Well, you guys are pretty powerful... but I know that I can't approve of your methods.
I'll manage my own shrine with my own power, without calling after you.

Bold words, coming from a shrine maiden who conspires with youkai.

Kanako's evasion is terrible (most of us can hit her 100% of the time), but she has a powerful barrier that makes it hard to do decent damage.





Those pillars on her back aren't just for show! They seem to be acting as giant laser guns.



The final mook slaying goes to SCUBA RUMIA

Now we can focus on the god.





At this point, Alice and Patchouli both have attacks long enough to hit from outside of Kanako's range. No reprecussions!



Ultimately, Keine takes her down. Piece o' cake!



...I would have been a little disappointed if you weren't up to at least this much.
Humans, youkai, fairies, devils. You faithless beings have managed to cause quite a bit of chaos.

Hah, we'll take that as a compliment!

That's what happens when you fuss over all this faith too much.

How important is faith for you to resort to stealing shrines from people?

Stealing? I'm just trying to request it.
A shrine with no faith is just a building. I'm trying to get people to gather there to turn it into a true shrine.

I don't have any problem with more people coming to my shrine!
But, I want to do that with my own power, not by borrowing yours!

Silence. Shrines don't exist for the benefit of their shrine maidens. A shrine exists to be the home of the gods.

FORTUNATELY, Komachi was attacking from a blind spot in the spell card zone! Otherwise this would hurt even more.



Kanako's shield seems to only trigger on physical attacks. People like Marisa, Patchouli and Alice can still unload at full power!

It's not over yet. I've barely begun to tap into my divine power.

She's impressive. Worthy of reporting back to my mistress.

But with the tengu standing aside, this is our chance. We have to keep pushing forward!

Fools. Even without the aid of the mountain-dwellers, lowly mortals such as you aren't worthy of concern.

Then why is the Moriya Shrine leading their hearts astray?
Doesn't that prove that your methods are wrong?!

If you don't understand our will, then we shall have to beat it into your hearts one at a time.

Nice to meet you! I'm Suwako Moriya, the other god of the Moriya Shrine.

Yup, it has two gods. Suwako - that's me - and Kanako over there run the Moriya Shrine together.

Huh, that's the first I've heard of this. It would've been nice if the youkai had told us about this.

If they can't enter the shrine grounds, could it be that the youkai don't know about this?

Anyway, Kanako, switch with me. You've been trucking on by yourself all this time.

...Very well. We'll switch places for a little while.



Hang on, why are you all just coming and going without asking me?

Now that that stick-in-the-mud Kanako is out of the way, the festival can continue!

Don't you know at least that much? Another name for a festival is the playtime of the gods - it's when gods come down to have fun with humans.

That's right - it's the playtime of the gods, or in other words, a festival. And this time, it'll be a festival of danmaku.

The gods of the Moriya Shrine, Kanako Yasaka and Suwako Moriya, are unlike any gods Reimu and her friends have faced so far.
