Let's Play Umineko, Episode 3 Scene 8: The Dignity of Furniture
<< | ^^ | >>

Lucifer of Pride
Advanced-level furniture created by Beatrice.
Lucifer is the older of the sisters and therefore their leader.
Because of this, she claims to be the strongest of the sisters, but she's secretly aware that she's actually the least talented.
However, she has always acted arrogantly in an attempt to hide this fact from the others. Her great fear is that her sisters would sneer at her if they ever found out.

Midnight strikes. The ritual begins.
Kinzo divines his own luck over and over with tarot cards, repeating the divination until it provides a favorable result.

However, try as he might, it seems that luck does not favor him tonight.
His tarot is interrupted by an urgent message from Genji...

Outside, Shannon returns from George's proposal.

It's Genji and Kanon. Kinzo is summoning the servants.

Something tells them that the mansion is not as it seems tonight. They must hurry.

The invincible barrier surrounding Kinzo's room has been broken. The scorpion on the handle no longer has its magic-repelling power, either.

Kanon can't detect Kinzo's presence. This is wrong.
Genji uses his study key to open the door.

Kinzo is here, but he's not alone.
She is here.

Genji directs a second greeting to the empty darkness behind Beatrice, welcoming Ronove to Rokkenjima.

Of the three Furniture, only Genji was able to detect the hidden demon.
It's Kanon's first time meeting this creature. He knows who Ronove's master is, which is why he doesn't trust him at all.

Kinzo has been reunited with Beatrice at last. However, she came with bad news as well.
He has been chosen as the first sacrifice.

Beatrice advances her queen. Checkmate.

Kinzo laughs ecstatically as he is consumed by flames. Finally, his contracs is fulfilled.

His sacrifice, of course, is not enough. The first twilight requires another five.

Conveniently, the number of servants in the mansion is five.
Genji nobly accepts his fate, as does Shannon.

Beatrice is disappointed in Shannon's dignified attitude. At least Kanon will be able to show her some entertainment!
So, another piece of furniture is summoned.

Beatrice make a deal: Defeat her furniture, and she will let him pick which five people survive to the end of the ritual.

Kanon knows he's being toyed with, but it's too tempting. He wants to stop being furniture.
He'll risk everything for a chance to see the blue ocean that Shannon saw.

The duel begins.

Purgatorio

Look, look, don't turn your eyes away, look at it. Look look, look look! It's magic, it's furniture, no matter how much you try to deny me and magic, look look, look look, look look! If everything happens like this in front of your eyes, that's all worthless, right? Look look look look, stop thinking already. I told you magic exists! I told you this is fantasy! Don't close your eyes, look closely, look look look look look!
Damn it damn it damn it...! But, if it's so obvious like that, what should I say?! Damn, damn damn damn!
Come now, don't turn away, look closely, alright?! Magic exists, it's fantasy, stop playing detective. I know, you really are awful at not thinking about things, right? Stop, stooooop! Look look, obviously fantasy, obviously fantasy, kihhihihyahyahyahhyahhyahhyahhyaaaaaahhh!!
Shut up shut up shut uuuuuuuuup! Don't talk to meeeeee!Rokkenjima

Lucifer is toying with Kanon. Kanon isn't interested in talking, which the prideful furniture takes as an insult.

She is furious at the insinuation that she's on the same order of magnitude as Kanon, that he has even the faintest chance of winning.

Pride is her power, but it's also her weakness.
All Lucifer feels is a desire to have a little fun. Kanon fights with a desperate will to survive.

This is the power of the heart. A power that a creature like Lucifer could never imagine.

Lucifer knows that a brutal punishment awaits for her later, after her shameful defeat.
Abandoning the last of her pride, she reveals her true form as a demon stake.

The stake moves far too fast for the eye of one as lowly as Kanon to follow. This is the killing blow.
But...

Kanon knew that her pride wouldn't allow her to strike anywhere other than at his heart. So, following her movements wasn't necessary.
Such is the fate of Lucifer of Pride.

The battle ends in Kanon's absolute victory.
Now, what about Beatrice's promise?

She never said that Kanon had to defeat just one of her furniture.
He has to defeat all of them.

Round 1: Kanon VS Lucifer.
Round 2: Kanon VS Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Mammon, Belphegor, Satan, and Leviathan.

The sisters spare no expense at tormenting the fallen Lucifer.

Lucifer is unable to degrade herself with the words Leviathan demands, and breaks down crying.
Even Kanon is starting to feel bad for her.

Beatrice's order was to swiftly strike down Kanon. Lucifer stands up again, and all seven comply.

Finally, Shannon joins the fight to protect Kanon.

However, even Shannon can't stand up to all seven stakes at once.

As her shield wavers, at the end of her life, Shannon has the intense pleasure of hearing that her behavior has displeased the witch.
Beatrice orders the Stakes to kill them as painfully as possible.

The furniture can't possibly defeat Beatrice. However, they can still fight back in their own way.

Genji peacefully, painlessly ends the lives of Shannon and Kanon, before Beatrice can torment them to her satisfaction.

Then, impressed by his gallant display, Ronove offers the same gift to Genji. With a snap of his fingers, he painlessly ends Genji's life.

Beatrice withdraws, almost as if she can't shake the thorn left by Shannon's parting words.

Because of the fuss over the possible 19th guest, Gohda has to diligently check every window and door in the mansion.
Alone in the darkness, he can understand how someone might come to believe in a spooky ghost witch.

Gohda hears a sound, and investigates the kitchen. Something is clattering around in there.

The old cook nervously opens the lid, and the clattering stops immediately.
Nothing at all is inside it.

As soon as he replaces the lid, every utensil in the kitchen begins to clatter.
Then, someone starts crawling out of the pot.

The fifth sacrifice is claimed.

One more sacrifice is needed. Kumasawa is selected. The seven stakes scatter, mindful to not be seen, in search of the elderly servant.

There she is!
All that remains is to secure the kill.

The fatal blow is... repelled?

The Stakes attack again, but nothing can touch Kumasawa. How is this possible?

Kumasawa offers her regards to both Ronove and Beatrice.
She hasn't seen them in a long, long time.
