LET'S DO THIS

I'll resist an OVERPOWERING urge to name myself Elfstar, and stick with the theme.

you should name yourself debbie

We begin our noble quest! Let's see what we got.

Acid Bolt! Looks like we'll be melting some guys.

Now, I'm gonna start doing the opening kind of fast, because it'll get repetitive otherwise.

CHOICE

[identity profile] professor-prof.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
a) Start with the Yggris quest
b) Start with the Puppy Cave
c) Start with the Small Cave
d) Start by heading south

Yes, let's do things normally for once!

Image

Yeah, man! I'm all about the questing! I'll buy a loaf of bread before I leave, too!

There it is! The classic n00b dungeon.

A word on spellbooks:
Spells have a certain number of times they can be cast before they are exhausted. Each time you read a spellbook, you get more castings of the spell. There are, however, two schools of thought on this subject:

Read all at once
Once you get a book, read it over and over until the spellbook vanishes.
PROS: Easy, quick, you don't have to lug the spellbook around, no trouble if the spellbook gets damaged

Read over time
Hold onto a spellbook, and read it again whenever you run out of castings.
PROS: You actually get significantly more castings this way

CHOICE

[identity profile] professor-prof.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
a) Burn through spellbooks now
b) Read each one once and hold onto them

B until they start becoming too heavy

Maybe if you carry it around for a while it will beef up those weakling elf arms.

B.

This is actually true! You can train your strength by carrying too much stuff.

Image

Behold, the power of acid!
My only attack spell costs 15 PP, meaning I can cast it exactly one time before having to rest.

Image

I fiddle with my inventory a bit. Equip dagger, equip a pair of rings I had hanging around, and drink my Potion of Strength.

All right, the situation is as follows:
The northern path leads to a locked door. To a frail caster like me, a nasty trap could be fatal!
The western path leads to an area of darkness. I'm at a big disadvantage in the dark, because I can't see enemies coming until they're already in melee range.
The eastern path can lead me down to the next floor, going deeper without fully exploring this floor.

CHOICE

[identity profile] professor-prof.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
a) Kick that door down
b) Check out that dark room
c) Do both of those
d) Ignore both

C, dark room first

The world is full of danger.

Let's go operate some machinery while taking drowsy cold medicine and run with scissors.

Behind the darkness, I find another dark room! I also shank a couple guys in the dark, with my shanking stick. I even go so far as to gain a level!

As a Book birth, I get a whopping SIX skills every level to increase. I go with Concentration, Healing, First Aid, Dodge, Stealth, and Herbalism.

Behind the locked door, there is nothing! Let's head on down.

I find a new spellbook on the next foor! Now I need no longer fear locked doors forevermore.

What a boring dungeon floor! Let's keep moving.

It's an altar of my alignment! This means I can lure neutral/chaotic monsters onto it and sacrifice them to my holy Gods, increasing my standing in their divine favor. It's... pretty easy to lose track of time doing this, and run out of food or something.

CHOICE

[identity profile] professor-prof.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
a) Dick around with the altar
b) No way, keep going

GAME OVER

Well, that's the end of that.
